Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Proximus Caesar Isn't A Villain, He's Just Trying to Save Apedom

Published 2024-05-06
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars, Kevin Durand and Owen Teague, and movement coordinator, Alain Gauthier, teach Collider's Perri Nemiroff how to move like an ape.

Here's the official synopsis for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Learn all about Noa's backstory from Teague, why Durand doesn't view Proximus Caesar as a straightforward villain, and loads more in this Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes interview.

i’ve been bingeing kingdom content and it makes me so happy to see how excited and happy kevin gets with not only his own experience with this movie but owen and the others as well. 10/10 casting 10/10 movie
  • Love the “backstory” for Proximus, I was actually having the same thought throughout the movie, like this Ape must have been really different from the others in his clan growing up, like kinda disappointed in their attitude towards the world or something

Kevin durand is underrated (: he is amazing can't wait to see this
  • Why u have to get them standing for 18 minutes. They can’t afford chairs 😂
  • From what I got from Kevin Durand Was that Proximus when he was younger, originally lived in a clan of bonobos or a clan made up of mostly bonobos. They might have heard of Caesar but it was Proximus who really delved into the legend of Caesar. At some point he split off from his original clan and became the tyrannical bonobo we come to learn.
  • Proxymas is always in character….so energetic…he really loves his on screen character….he is great…I can see his dedication to his character….lots of love
  • @JustinShrader

Proximus Caesar was just a Ape Roman Emperor. Inherently evil? No. Imperialistic and interested more in apedom progress instead of ape individuality...yes. He is more of an anti-hero at best. The real villain of the movie is the duplicitous human girl.....and even that, only if we look from the pov of apedom. If we look from a perspective of humankind trying to survive and reastablish itself as something of at least some importance on this new earth....not so much.
