If you can’t catch me in Nuclear Medicine then I’ll be in CT!
I am certified in both Nuc Med and CT. Honestly, the way technology in the field of Radiology is advancing, it is becoming more and more necessary for Nuc Med Techs to also be licensed in Computed Tomography. So, I wanted to show you how to set up a CT scan using IV contrast! It’s a little more involved than most think! And there is one super important step I STRESS, that you should NEVER skip! Listen out for it!

I love YOUR feedback so let me know if this video was helpful/interesting!

  • Thanks for the honest and informational CT with contrast. Unlike the person complaining, I would rather be well informed and as educated as possible! Great job!!!!!
  • @majikmike0169
Thanks, I needed a refresher since I just passed my CT exam almost a year later from doing clinicals. I'm currently applying for my first CT position.
  • I'm glad you said about the air in the tube. I'm having this done tomorrow and that situation is all I can think about. It's the only thing I want to ask about, to make sure it's done. I'm sure they will. Thanks

Thank you for sharing this information. I had this procedure yesterday (parotid gland imaging). I wish I had seen this video beforehand because I would have been prepared for that big needle, ouch! It wasn't easy. The scan itself went well.

Great to bump into your videos, I'm a tech myself and is very tough to find a job in big cities because people hang on to these jobs for long. Love it
  • Hey Vanessa. Excellent video! 🙂 So i just wanted to know if there's any mechanical/electrical solution to automatically "prime the tubing". Could you please let me know???

Hey Vanessa, would you like to make a new video of how is the benefit part of being a NMT? Like all the benefits of working as a NMT and the pay please.
  • I'm definitely waiting on more videos. Are you going to do a day in the life video?
  • @Ricocase

I had it done and started feeling weirdly like out of it, immediately let her know she stopped it left me on the side before someone came to get me I started feeling so much itchyness on my head like if I had lice all over it worse feeling ever and was still feeling weird wated for them to come maybe 15 min they came I let them know immediately and the pain I had gone to the ER for felt way worse than it did at the beginning. They told me I was allergic
  • Hi Vanessa, thank you for your video, how much it cost CT without insurance? I have CT very soon, but we wait the authorization from insurance provider. Please, I want to prepare in case my insurance provider doesn't accept it.

What type of metals can not go in this machine ? I had surgery in 1983 and I have some screws and possible plate and I don’t even know what material was used

Hi, I had a chest, pelvic, abdomen CT scan with contrast today. How big a deal is it that I had an underwire bra on? The radiologist/ tech didn't tell me until we were done that I should have taken it off or worn a sports bra. Is the chest portion essentially completely screwed, or is is sort of ok? Thanks.
  • I've had a few CT Scans using barium drink and intravenous iodine and I know what usually feels like, the warm sensation like need to urinate which usually only is felt for less than a minute and goes away. Last month my PCP ordered one for me, instead of feeling the mild warm sensation I felt very hot burning not just in private genital region but entire inner thigh almost to knees and pelvic area, then it rushed up and my head was very hot and later I was treated at ER and doc said I had bad allergic reaction, he had CT Scan without any contrast of my brain. This was over 3 weeks ago, I was very I'll, dizziness fatigue nausea my head hurting very badly, I went to ER again and they did xray of my chest Doc said I had pneumonia and put me on antibiotics, my head still hurting. PCP did xray of my chest and told me chest cleared up. My brain feels painful inside my head. I'm 62 years old and worried about brain tissue damage, iodine went in my brain when CT Scan done weeks ago, my sinuses keep running. Thankfully I am still alive. I think I underwent incorrect dosage of iodine contrast. My brain hurts.

When studying the course for Nuc Med, do you think an ipad or a macbook would be the better option? The new ipad and apple pencil makes taking notes on it really easy and perhaps enjoyable, with the bonus of having a camera to take photos, but using a laptop is usually customary. Would you suggest using an ipad for lectures and studying in nuclear medicine?

Hi! I have two questions. Q. My father has taken Sputnik V covid booster dose today. So is it safe for him to take IV contrast injection? Q. In the diagnostic centre, he was given contrast orally after which we were asked to to back home. But upon reaching home, we got a call from the diagnostic centre and they asked us to come back because they wanted to give IV contrast injection to him? But by that time he already had lunch. So he will again go there to take IV contrast injection and get the scan done for the 2nd time. My question : When he was administered the contrast orally, is there any need to take the IV contrast injection now? Will it be safe?
