Pompeii - along with 2000 of its entombed citizens - was rediscovered in 1748, and computer animated graphics are used here to recreate it in all its glory.

0:24:56 - This documentary combines computer animated sequences and 3D graphics with period iamgery and modern location footage to recreate the splendour of ancient Rome. Famous sites revisited include the Forum, where matters of state were decided, and the Colosseum, centre of gladiatorial contests and public entertainment.

  • I saw photos of Pompeii in National Geographic when I was a child. The molds of the dead impacted me a lot. Mothers covering their children, animals, people who died terrorized. Since then, I'm very interested in that condemned city. I also read The Last Days of Pompeii. Impressive
  • Pompeii's tragic end is well-known, but its life before the eruption is just as fascinating. I'm here for the computer-generated tour of its splendor.

Be aware that the Pompeii documentary ends as suddenly as the city itself, and for some reason we're doing a tour of Rome from 25:00 to the end.

I made my first trip to Rome and to Pompeii this past November. While this is a dated video, it was interesting for me to have watched this after recently being there. It’s an amazing place and I encourage anyone who sees this to go and visit yourself. Also, visiting in November is a great time to do it. There are fewer crowds, and the weather is still quite nice.
  • We love watching from Hendersonville Middle School, in Hendersonville, North Carolina at the beginning of our 6th grade social studies class!
  • I thought this documentary was about Pompeii? After 25 minutes it moves onto the history of Rome.
  • I enjoyed my visit - I liked Herculaneum in particular and if you are to go, a visit to the museum in Naples is a must as so many of the contents of the various houses are on display here and they are fascinating

The molds contain the skeletons of the people who were encased in the ash. I would say they are the remains.
  • What a lot of work that must have been to do at the time. I saw a video the other day with elders describing what it was like when working together here in North America when they were young. One said, "It was so much fun to be alive back then because there was always something to do." Something tells me that would not have been so for almost all people in ancient Rome around the year 300 A.D. or so.
  • Merry Christmas to everyone.....nice historical coverage video about historical valuable .Pompeii city.....documentary labeled to Quarters🔲 Engle competition amongst ( Ceasar, Pompey, Augustus, Senate's) ...before Rome rules converted from Republic to Empirial state....where Temples 🛕& Statu creating, organizing and conscription of legions, and invading new territories and repealing barbarian invading Beyonce borders

I saw a new documentary saying this occurred October not August.
  • Temperature = different ice in different areas = different sea levels = different pressures on different areas of the tectonic plates = volcanoes and earthquakes
  • I’m sorry lady narrator person. But you can’t just say they failed to recognize some warning signs “there had been a few minor earth tremors and all local sources of water had dried up..the people were just going about their daily business…” WHAT?!! All local sources of water had DRIED UP?!! I should think that would cause a LITTLE alarm!!!
  • @carm1234
Actually it was not August, it was October. They proved it. Because they found out a lot of fall fruit coats, scarfs.
