You are viewing one of the finest and rarest films of old Toronto. Thanks to a private collection, you are able to see it today. This 32 minute film presents a nostalgic and fast-paced history of the TTC and Toronto in the mid 1940s in full color. 40 Million Miles was made somewhere between 1945 and 1947 under the direction of Jack Chisholm, one of Canada's finest film makers at the time. For everyone living and paying taxes in Toronto, you will like the part around 30 minutes where a guy fills his gas tank and the one dollar coin appears emphasizing how the cost of running the TTC is met. Enjoy this classic.

Such beautiful times! Elegant fashion, nice suits worn by streetcar operators, art deco transit vehicles etc.!! Amazing!

Enjoyed this. Distant memories brought back. A Toronto long gone in many ways, Music choices must have been by a fellow classical music lover. Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and more.

Parts of this take me back. As a kid I rode the ferry every summer to Center Island.. Always loved that trip. And just coincidently, I recently purchased a G scale Peter Witt car. I had a print shop make the Toronto decals for it. A big thanks for sharing this video. I learned a lot and really enjoyed it.
