4:07 This is not true. Votava's run was beaten in 2006 by Richard Ureta and Rodrigo Lopes. Although both of these times can be seen on the Twin Galaxies leaderboard (www.twingalaxies.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda/nint…, neither of these runs have an existing video today, and Lopes' run in particular is sometimes disputed. Regardless, what I said in the video was inaccurate, so I'm sorry to everyone about that.

summoning salt is like "masterblaster812 held the record for 51 years, it seemed nobody could beat him screen turns black BUT THEN"
  • @maskedfoxx7173
Gets world record "And everybody was Kung Fu fighting!" What a legend lmao.
  • @jeffk1722
Congrats to LackAttack for breaking 28 minutes today.
  • @KmartPoker
Can you do a world record progression on how fast I click on your new videos? It's pretty much instant but the run could still use a little optimization.

8:43 It's so interesting to see that item drop chart. My mom and I (from who I've learned nearly all of this game's secrets) intuitively picked up on this system over the years. We knew that the moblins in the west forest tend to drop a lot of bombs, there were certain enemies in dungeons that dropped blue rupees, or that to farm rupees quickly you go to the graveyard, awaken all of the ghosts, and then kill the original ghost to get all of their drops at once. To see that our findings match up with the chart and that there's an actual system, is so cool!

Update to this video: the world record is currently at 27 minutes and 58 seconds set again by lackattack
  • @Greenlightandgo
Amazing how this was basically the entirety of one of my summers when I was young and now it can be beaten in less than the time of an episode of Care Bears. Unreal.
  • @kruks
Worth mentioning that lack's 28:43 was set a mere 13 days ago. The man is dedicated.
  • @YugiMomo
7:05 has to be the most wholesome reaction to a world record I've ever seen

Dude, I can't tell you how much I love and appreciate these videos. I'm kinda not into speedrunning - especially watching full playthroughs. But your videos are genius. They talk about how great the game is, then show the tricks and strats as time goes on. Thanks for making these. By the way: I was a game journalist for 8 years, and writer/designer of 3 big-budget titles.

most speedrunners beating a wr: holy crap!! I did it!!! darkwing duck: (no reaction, sings completely unrelated song)
  • I'm absolutely LOVING this series of videos. The World Record Progression is just my type of thing. So great work an keep it up! On a side note, the screen scrolling glitch, you don't need to press up AND down on the same single frame, I believe it's just up that needs pressing :) I've got a video about various Zelda 1 Glitches where I explain it in full, but it was a long while ago that I made it so can't remember hahaha
  • @HenryNehring
I like the part where he names a strat then shows the new time

I've been following Lack since 2014. I clearly remember seeing many of his records live, including the first sub-29. He's an amazing speedrunner and just a really good guy. It's worth pointing out that he's been on a huge hot streak the last few months. He's been going for the WR in every LoZ (NES) category, and currently has 11/13 of them.

7:01 its a legendary world record you have a few seconds to think in something cool to say or just let your heart scream from the excitement! the dude: "everybody loves kung fu fighting"
