Is Your Crankset Off Centered? Easy Way to Check/Fix

Published 2024-03-25
Heres another inarticulate, haphazardly throw together vid on the easiest way to precisely center your crankset relative to your saddle. Your rear wheel is likely NOT perfectly inline with the center of your saddle on many bikes, so if your using center of the rear tire or center of the chain stays to measure from it is NOT always accurate! That said, if you want to do just a quick check without removing the crank you can measure from crank arm to a fixed point on the frame, spin the crank 180* and measure from the other side to that same point and this will give you a measurement to use. If this # comes up to be sub~3mm, if your lazy, you can just put spacers on one sides pedals BUT then you are ADDING that amount to your Q-factor, ie distance between pedals/changing the angle that your legs go in/out.

Your watching YouTube vids about bike mods/maintenance here and yeah, its a pain to pull the crankset sometimes but if you do it right, it will give you biomechanical benefits & that extra mental horsepower knowing that you really did go the extra step to achieve your best, leaving nothing on the table!

Hop on amazon and get yourself a 10$ kit of bottom bracket or crankset spacers/shims so your crank can be centered directly under your money maker.

ride safe
cheers
