If anyone has played the game or seen the series but the Fungus was hinted and implied that it spread in grainery silos and was distributed as bread and wheat products, that's why it spiraled out of control so quickly

Shadow my dude you didn't know you can make wool with string. You can use the cobwebs to make a lot of string to make a lot of wool. Making wool have been a thing for a long long time
