Wild Camping The East Highland Way Part One - Fort William to Balgowan

Published 2023-04-23
Part One of my Wild Camping The East Highland Way.

I walked this 82 mile route solo in February, carrying everything I needed for six days on my back and navigating using a map and compass.

This fantastic route takes in some awesome scenery, along with some great history. I encountered just about every kind of weather on the route, from rain to snow to sun and wind. One of the best aspects of this route was the feeling of remoteness, and lack of people.

Part Two coming soon.

  • Tom, well done for including the Commando memorial and for the insight into the history of the airborne division
  • @carpideom
Great video mucka, and respect to the bootnecks. Give me a shout when next you go for walkabout 👌 RIP Lee
  • @martynrawlins8050
That was one hell of a break in your thigh bone to walk that distance when it takes years to recover fully. Bloody marvelous. Highland malt helps with the healing, maybe

Real Nice Memorial. Thank you for sharing that because that’s a bit of Historical Value that living here in the States I would never have known about. Much Thanks!
  • Great vid!! As an ex French Navy commando, i got hit right in the heart when i saw the mémorial; it is a part of our ancestor's history... United!
  • Great video mate and as you said, good drills! Look forward to part two.

Highland Tabasco for the win..!! 😁 Amazing landscape, Scotland is great, my mum’s family is from the west coast, so I’ve done a fair bit of walking over there.

  • Spean Bridge is always my base when I'm exploring in Scotland and I always call into the memorial. Ever see the original footage of the commando training? Awesome stuff. RIP Lee.

This was excellent Tom, Scotland is beautiful, used to holiday quite a bit around Fort Augustus, bit of a trek though, North Wales around Betws-y-coed, Capel Curag and Llyn Ogwn it's a shorter drive and a good shout if you get one of the days it's not rammed, I notice a few of your vids your up that way wild camping in Snowdonia 👍
  • That looks like a good yomp, as you stated not well known and therefore peaceful. The Bootneck Memorial has changed somewhat over the decades, last time I was there, no Remembrance Garden or carpark, just a rough track and the Memorial and hoofing landscapes. Good effort, look forward to p2.
