Disgusting! Meanwhile many of us are struggling to pay rent or put food on the table, crooks every single one of them!
  • I went to my MP office twice and never actually saw the MP in the office. It was the secretary. I wonder what they do when there is no parliament session in Ottawa.

  • Ah, Canadian democracy. Where we all have the freedom to vote for someone we may or may not care about, only in turn to have someone we very likely don't care about making decisions for us and about us on a global scale that we literally and absolutely have no control over whatsoever. I feel represented; don't you?

The problem is these salaries were created by MPs and no MP will ever challenge this
  • @Bartonovich52
A politicians salary should always be tied to the average income of the entire nation. That way... everyone has to do good for them to make money, not just the 1% or the poor.

Can these guys are taking care of the country like they care about the economy when you’re making that kind of money. Overpaid and under deserving. Sounds like they need to take the big pay cut get back to reality of the average workers. Then maybe will see stuff get done in parliament to help the working Class. Reduce taxes, give us more take-home money that’s what people need.

I agree with all of it but the best, most important part was the last part: if you're in it for the money, the travel, or other 'goodies', you're in it for the wrong reason.

He didnt even mention the 37 bedroom mansion andrew scheer lives in...with chefs, butlers etc etc etc etc

This is a big problem, these politicians are getting way overpaid on the backs of the average taxpayers. It should be an equalization of the average earners. So if the average person makes between 50 and 70,000 that's what these MP should be getting. Sometimes I wonder what do these people actually do rather than just collect money and charge the taxpayers for expenses. They talk and talk and it doesn't seem like anything gets done. We need less government, so many people are struggling meanwhile they are living well for nothing. It's all bulshit.

Overpaid + full pension after 2 terms yet no money for vets...
  • @gboates
they always vote themselves a raise as first order of business $180,000 per year.
  • @kit2770
Hell yes. I can't hit the thumb up button enough on this one. As usual, 22 nails it and is hilarious doing it.

Here's an idea: MP's should be volunteer with zero salary. Pay their living expenses etc and at the end of their run, Canadians vote on a scale of how well they served which would be directly proportional to the sliding scale on the ballot. That would be their retirement. Just a thought.
  • @ryuuguu01
I think they should get the median ( 50 percentile) + the 25 percentile of a Canadian's income. That is the amount that 1/2 Canadians get more than and 1/2 get less than Plus the amount that 75% get more than and 25% get less than. Give them some incentive to help most Candian not just lobbyists.
  • @leifharmsen
They should be paid more for 2 reasons. The main one is to make them less suseptable on bribery and dirty money - same reason judges need to be paid well. Worth every penny. The second reason is to level the playing field, some mps come into the job working class, some parties represent poorer classes than others, to make the risk of running worth it for these mps they should all be paid well once elected; otherwise parliament will remain an exclusive playground for the rich hobbiest. Also, you seen the housing prices in Ottawa lately?
  • I believe MP’s should be paid well but there should be no pension. You serve the country, not become a parasite to it. We would get better people that way I think.
