Three out of every four jokes in this monologue bombed, and yet I just laughed harder than I have in weeks. The funniest man ever.
  • There will never be another Johnny Carson, who was by far the king of late night!!!
  • @StoneBTH
Only Carson could bomb this gracefully.  He was the best.  If a joke worked, it was great.  If it didn't, even better.  It was funny either way.

Late night has never been the same without you, Johnny.

Awesome. 🤣 The awkward pauses, the mercy claps, the cracking up...a classic mono. 👍🏽😆 And the beeper: "Can you call my writers on that damn thing?!" 🤣

Didn't realize how much I missed Johnny till I watched this. Late night has never been the same. Rest in peace, Mr. Carson. You too, Ed.

Johnny Carson was like everyone's pre-bedtime friend who we all loved. Silly and sometimes "dying" like this, but still managed to put smiles on millions of faces every night..

Brilliant. The mark of a great comedian is they're like a warrior. They go to battle with bad jokes and tough audiences and know how to improvise. And watching Johnny do that is beautiful. RIP to the greatest.
  • On his worst night, he’s still funnier than anyone out there today!!!
  • @dalekmoon
Even Johnny's jokes that 'bomb' are way funnier than what we have today, because the way Johnny gets out of them is a lost art.

If someone tells you that Johnny Carson was something special and will never be duplicated, this monologue says it all. Almost none of his scripted jokes worked this night, but he still turned it into something funnier than the monologues you hear from today's so-called talk show hosts.

"Is there a revolver in the house..."  Great stuff.

Johnny Carson on a bad night is better than anything on a good night these days.

Today, non of the Late Shows have an ounce of humor. Thank you for bringing back the good-old days.
  • It was Johnny’s adlib that brought the comedy to the monologue. Johnny was quick on his feet With a comedic wit all his own. There were no off nights with Johnny, every show was a gem.
