Actually the reason the Anaheim Ducks dropped "The Mighty" was in 2005 Disney sold the team. To mark the beginning of a new era the new owners, along with shortening the name to just the Ducks, rebranded the logo, jerseys and home arena name. The change was highly welcomed by fans as Disney had generally been percieved as more interested in using the organization as a moneymaker rather than putting together a winning team. In their first season under the new ownership the Ducks went on to win the Stanley Cup, becoming the first ever team from California to do so.
