The spare piston by the side of the engine is a nice touch.
-
Loud as it may be, I could probably fall asleep listening to that.
-
nice to see one of these engines running at the speed they were meant to run at and not just barely chugging along! great job to all involved!
-
Awesome video! I am happy to see an old workhorse like this restored to running condition instead of rusting away in some scrapyard.
-
Nice to see Harley-Davidson have developed a lightweight engine at last!
-
I'm former EN1 us navy and was specialized in the Fairbanks Prime Movers. This is a testimony to F & M 2 stroke/cycle diesels and the simplicity of that type to run and maintain.
-
I used to work on and run these. There are still several in use across Nebraska in old generation plants. Easy to fire up and throw load out on the line. Thx for the memories.
-
AND you guys are young! Thank you and bring your children to teach them the hows and whys. : - )

Great video! In FL, at Koreshan State Park, the have a 1925 Fairbanks Morse that ran off and on from 1926 to about 1946 or 47. One like it powered a Westinghouse generator for a utopian society that lived there before it became a park. The one they restored is the same as the one that used to be there and came from a creamery. The local single throw guys restored it and run it every Saturday. I hope I have this story correct. These are wonderful to see!

Nobody will want to watch a solar panel turn on after 14 years.
-
Awesome. I went to school for, and worked on, the FM 38D 8 1/8 OP engines in the Navy. One hell of an engine.
-
Listen to that engine sing and look at the Piston lying down! Kudos gentlemen for getting that monster going without an owner's manual!! I can see you machined some parts.
-
Even after so many years of been built it runs like new, so smooth for an engine of his age, seems that it had an outstanding maintenance very well taking care of it.
-
Give that poor engine something to do! It yearns for real work. It sounds like you fixed it up 100%!
-
Without looking at the picture, it sounds like a big diesel locomotive idling.
-
Sure would love to hear it under load!
-
Great work guys ! Very impressive
-
These Fairbanks Morse Engines have such a wonderfully catchy sound!
-
Saw similar unit at the motor transport Museum in Campo, San Diego County but not running. They said it was an old backup generator came out of a hospital. an impressive piece of machinery!
-
Great big "attaboy" for all concerned! A magic moment for sure!
