Finding a good "team" is the most important part of any success. Whether it be at home or on the high seas. "The Captain runs the ship, but the Chief makes the ship run" Truer words were never spoken.
  • Hello Chief, Having spent twelve years in the U.S. Military I can say that you’re the type of Officer that I would be proud to serve with. I send you and your family Best wishes of Peace and Happiness.

Retired carpenter here. Worked on big commercial buildings. Had a German jobsite superintendent at one point. He was the best ever. He believed in working WITH everybody, and everybody working together to make the job go smoothly. Very knowledgeable, very wise. Will never forget him.

Chief...I'm extremely impressed with you and what you've done. Taking the time to give back to the younger generation of merchant marines, and many other things you've done, shows the quality of your character. I wish you the best!!!
  • Wish more chief engineer were like Chief Makoi, he loves his job and helps us cadets, unlike others...

Recently I came across your YouTube channel Chief. I am a lifelong landlubber from the Midwest in the USA and your videos have opened for me an unknown world of the real operations of the Merchant Marine. I am retired and too old to set off to sea for a career, but your explanations of the hard work and technical knowledge necessary for keeping a ship healthy are greatly appreciated. I am retired US Army and I can say beyond a doubt that you are the type of professional that I always enjoyed serving with. Thanks.
  • I don't like it chief when people hate others for the sole reason that they belong to scholarship program or a certain school. They label people first before they get to know them which put us in defensive(cautious position) at all times. Then again we try to understand these people as fellow human beings and as a crewmate while trying protect our own reputation. I salute you chief, your a true mariner!!!

I first watched your recap of the Ever Given / Evergreen incident; excellent. That peaked my interest in your channel. I've looked at a number of your videos, then saw this and was curious as to your story. It is also excellent. You are an inspiration to many people, not just seafarers, but all young people who often wonder "what will I do with my life" Great video and story. Thanks for your service in the Merchant Marine. (unsung heroes) P.S. great engine room tour, something I've always wanted to see.

I am now riveted to your videos. I’ve just found you while watching a video on the stuck cargo ship in the Sues Canal. I’m so sorry to say I had no idea of what went on here. I love watching these. Thank you so much!! Love your voice!! ❣️. So brave!!
  • I’m very proud of your accomplishment and service to the Filipino community here and abroad. Continue your good work and be successful to your passion!

You're an inspiration sir. I'm a cadet and experienced life at sea for 13 months. I'm not from PMMA though (guess I'm not smart enough😂). The thing is. . . . I'm not sure if I want to pursue this career. I fell off the ship but by the grace of God I got saved. I had no injuries whatsoever but that experience left a scar on my mind. I think I'm traumatized to be onboard again but I'm afraid to admit it to myself and my family. It's hard when they expect a lot from you. Seafaring really is not easy. I just want to pass by and say that I respect all seafarers out there risking their lives for their family. More power!
  • Am a proud wife of the most hardworking cheng! Thanks for this vid, Sir. It is quite a help for us to know more the significance of your job. Praying for good health and safety at all times.
