I thought I was about to be on Travis Kelce's podcast, but instead, I fell into a scam that was one of the clearest examples of the dead internet theory.

this is CRAZY. the fact that your agency fell for this is unacceptable. they’re supposed to be on top of things like this. so sorry for the amount of anguish this caused you!!!

Theory: facebook is making more money from the hacked pages than they were before, so they will never be interested in fixing the hack.

The dead Internet idea is so true everything online feels so fake or just there for rage bate and nothing on the Internet feels real anymore
  • @Marxnchill
Scammers thrive when people are too ashamed to admit they were scammed. I super appreciate this public service announcement! 📢
  • What a nightmare. We really are approaching a post social media app era. Bring back personalised websites!
  • I hate hate hate how fucking hard it is to get any support now. I recently had an issue with nintendo and I spent about a month emailing with "Michelle" who was definetely an undisclosed AI so obviously it was of 0 help and I asked to please talk to a real human to no avail until I had to give up and accept that I'd given nintendo a lot of money for nothing. Like Nintendo and facebook are multmillion dollar companies that can afford good customer support but instead it's just the worst fucking wild goose chase meant totire you out and give up

I deleted my Facebook YEARS ago lol. Had no reason to use it and frankly HATED being reminded of how shitty I was as a teenager 😂
  • Girl, being hacked is, top ten, one of my greatest fears. I feel for you and forget Facebook. Meta is hot garbage.
  • You're so right, the permission to share the access to your page should be reversible. It should be impossible to easily gain full access to someone else's page, and block the actual owner, the way it was possible with your page. Makes no sense. Should be a little more difficult than that. But they don't care about safety it seems

The fake stories was what got me off of Facebook. I used to read those stories and actually believe them until one day I read something that was so incredibly fake that I felt embarrassed for sharing those things in the past and so I just left and haven't returned.

Ai is definitely making platforms more miserable to use. A lot of it is like the internet version of space junk. And I hate that I can't choose a category on a streaming platform and just look at everything available to watch anymore: instead I now have to deal with an endlessly repeating stream of thumbnails I already saw and wasn't interested in. And this may very well be my last comment on youtube ever because I'm really tired of having the majority of my comments either removed or shadowbanned: banal, innocuous, boring comments being censored for no discernible reason. I wonder if this one will get through. I could go on and on, honestly.

I had my gmail account hacked recently and it truly is traumatic. All my docs, photos, etc from the past 15 years just gone overnight. And SO much sensitive information. I still dont have access and probably never will, and its impossible to speak to a human. I feel u

the fact that meta doesn’t have a customer service line for this exact reason is despicable. if i’m having issues with my phone, i can call apple and a human can help me fix it for free. just a couple days ago i tried to transfer access to a facebook page to the person taking over for me as the communications chair of a student org (i just graduated college) and couldn’t do it because the password got misplaced by the other exec members and we can’t seem to find the email that set up the facebook page. and there’s nothing i can do to figure this out because i can’t just… talk to facebook

The fact that you still don't have access even after months of trying to get a person at Facebook who would know what to do is telling. It shows that facebook doesn't care about creators or users. It makes me nervous as a user of Instagram and Threads if the same things will happen there.

The trend of self-censoring on YouTube, especially when a content creator is talking about a serious topic, is so frustrating. I'll be listening to a great essay but then suddenly it gets derailed by usage of abbreviations or homonyms rather than clearly stating what they mean and sometimes the explanation of "I can't say that because algorithm." I get the reasons and I understand the reasons to why wanting a different or competing platform but my question is what's the differences between YouTube and the blog sites you're writing where you don't feel the need to self-censor? Is it just because it's free of the pressures of visibility algorithms and monetization?
