In this talk Sara Nuru, a German fashion model and TV moderator with Ethiopian roots, shares her personal story on how her identity evolved from “the first black baby of Erding” to “Germany’s Next Top Model” and finally to “a young female ambassador for an Ethiopian aid organization Menschen für Menschen”. She urges that identity might begin with the way you look or what you do for a living. But it is up to each one of us – starting with ourselves – to make sure that our identity does not end at that.

Sara Nuru is a young influential woman with Ethiopian roots who works as a fashion model & TV moderator and is also the ambassador for the charity organization “Menschen für Menschen”. After winning the 2009 edition of the casting show “Germany’s Next Topmodel”, Sara Nuru not only started a successful career in the entertainment business, she also got on opportunity to engage with “Menschen fuer Menschen”, an aid group which supports people in Ethiopia through various projects. In her TED talk, she will speak about challenges and pressure young individuals often face once it comes to making determinant future decisions such as study or next job. But what if you wanted to reinvent yourself after you have already started down your chosen path? Is it acceptable to throw everything away and start again? I love how nervous she seems, that heavy breathing and twisting her tongue. She is so famous and successful, she does such important things for society, but still talking in front of those people makes her nervous. She is an incredible person!

I really like that they did not polish her speaking before. She comes as she is and that is very very good. Bravo Sara!

Sara, today you showed us the other side of you. Wisdom arises, almost always, in people who step back from their routine life and meditate on the real purpose of their own living. You are not only very beautiful, but also a woman of wisdom. Many thanks Sara, Dankschön und Liebe Grüße!

Sara you have used your God given beauty  & intelligence to help the people of the world understand thyself and to help each other. As you said we should not be defined by others and most important we should not let ourselves be defined by others.  To use your sources and network to help those who can not help themselves, specially in education for our young children in Ethiopia or 3rd world countries is more rewarding than any amount of many you have made or are making. May God Bless you in health, long life and guide you in your endeavor.
