Rebecca Gardea, has been an owner and breeder of Weimaraners, for the past seventeen years. As a pet owner Rebecca and her Weims have a full life, from field training to AKC Confirmation events, Rebecca is insuring that her dogs have form and function.

The Weimaraner, Germany’s sleek and swift “Gray Ghost,” is beloved by hunters and pet owners alike for their friendliness, obedience, and beauty. They enjoy exercise, and plenty of it, along with lots of quality time with their humans.

The first thing to know about the Weimaraner is that he's a housedog. He's not meant for kennel or backyard life, and he's also not suited to apartment living. This highly active dog needs a large, securely fenced yard where he can run, and an active family who can provide him with the exercise and mental stimulation he needs. A sense of humor helps as well, especially when you see how your Weim has relandscaped your yard in his efforts to rid it of mice, moles, and bugs. He'll be proud of himself for his good efforts, so don't forget to praise him as you calculate in your head how much time, money, and effort it will require to put the yard back the way you like it. You might want to supervise him more closely and provide him with additional exercise. Weimaraners need a couple of hours of exercise daily if you want to prevent recreational barking, chewing and digging.

My weimaraner just passed away on October 1st, 2018. 21 days before his 14th birthday. And all I can say is that he was the best dog I ever had. So, everything in this video seems true from my perspective. If you're looking for a breed, this is the one.

Video summary = Quit your job, and you too can have enough time to own a Weimaraner.

They’re a fur baby that you never get over. I’m on number 7 and I still weep about number 1.

After working in a doggie day care with several full bred Weims, I can share my take on their personality. They are bred to have intense separation anxiety. When left for short periods away from others dogs or owners weims so nuts. Some have injured themselves in a manic state when put in any type of isolation. They are extremely smart dogs, but have a knack for being too smart for their own good. They are a common breed to let out other dogs from play rooms and figure out ways to get what they want. They are extremely loving and loyal pups. Despite being pretty crazy when it comes to isolation, Weims are beautiful and excellent family dogs. If someone wants a working dog like a weim or vizula, etc. they need to understand that they have HIGH energy levels and absolutely need ways to work out that energy or they absolutely will become bored and destructive. Overall the breed is quirky, extremely loyal, and very loving.

Ya, OMG….my weim is the absolute best. He loves the shit outta me…..just stares at me continuously…extremely loyal and I love love love him!!!
  • When she said that weimaraners can jump a 6 to 8 foot fence I looked at my weimaraner puppy who is about 4 months old and can't jump onto a 2 foot couch😂😂

These are such high energy dogs and you need to be able to exercise them for hours everyday, which is why IMO they shouldn’t be sold in pet stores. Uneducated people will see a cute little silver Weimaraner puppy, and adopt it, not knowing how much time and effort they will need to put into the dog. And later on, the dog will be too hyper to handle, and will eventually end up in a shelter.

Excellent video. I had a male weim for 15 yrs and now i have a female and she is 4.5 yo. Best dogs ever.

Weims are great dogs and happy, when enough exercise is given. I lost my boy 2 years ago at the age of 13. I miss him dearly. He never suffered from separation anxiety at all, and was just the sweetest boy. Never did like the mailman though...lol Most of all, weims will give you many years of laughter and love

I've had 3 weimeraners over the span of 17 years. Two are still alive. One is 10 yrs old and the other 2 yrs young. Best fur babies ever!

I'm on my 5th weim..... all hunters. Rebecca has hit every nail on the head with this breed. I've had German shorthaired pointers, labs, etc. and by far the weim is the best overall. CAUTION: this breed is HYPER! Everything she says about their energy level is dead on. Love my boys.... and they will do anything to please me. You MUST secure YOUR place as the dominate one though. Once that dominance is set, these dogs will do anything you want them to with excellence. Best breed ever.... period.

BRO HOLY SHIT YOU SURPRISED ME! You came with that Weimaraner Video a few months ago and I thought that was it but you just made my day with this video of Weims! They are the best! Thanks man

My late Weim was a great search and rescue dog. He loved to work. Miss him a lot! I had a house without a yard. However, he ran with me every single morning about 6 - 12 miles. As soon as dawn came, he was up on the bed, staring down at me, telling me it was time to go running. I am an Ironman-distance triathlete and he kept me exercised. Then, he was totally laid back in the house. He could be stubborn. On the refusal to move from his space, she is right on. He would do that. He would grab a spot on the couch and, through some contortion of the space-time continuum, he would increase his mass 20 times. You weren't going to move him. 🤣 He was a good dog.

Great to see a documentary about weimaraners that talk about their huntingskills and need of activity!!! Thank you!!!
  • @andresam106
Weird my weim is the exact opposite of everything is this video except for being a shadow. She is extremely low energy and super chill. She’s about 5 years, idk how she’s like that but I love it. I get all the benefits of a loving loyal weim and no craziness lol
  • I love Weimaraners my favorite breed. I had my Weimaraner since he was a puppy a for 12 years. I miss my baby very much and would seriously consider having another Weimaraner in my life
  • @user-ty9xn2jw1i
I raise Weimaraner in Tokyo city. There is only about 300 Weimaranar in Japan. Because very rare dog in Japan.
  • Wow, i guess I got extremely lucky. Mine has never destroyed anything while outside alone. She has her area, and never digs. She has never attempted to get out of the yard. She spends 6-8 hours alone while we are at work. All other things explained in this video are spot on. I dont think i can ever own another breed of dog. Weims are the greatest dogs.

Just had to euthanize our 17 year old Weimaraner, Blue. This was a dog that was unexpectedly trained as a service dog when he was 7 years old and he acted like he’d been doing it since he was a young pup. He was the dog of my heart and our family was blessed to have shared our lives with him for as long as we did... 😔
