Mind Mapping is an incredibly powerful skill for studying, note taking, and learning because it forces us to generate connections and relate ideas together. However, many students struggle to use it because of how difficult it is to do it effectively. We were in the same boat. And after lots of trial and error, studying and learning through many subjects like medicine, STEM, productivity, and even business, we've come up with a checklist of items to make mind mapping a super effective and easy-to-use tool. Making mind maps has easily become our favorite learning strategy to study for exams or for boards. Here's our ultimate mind map tutorial to take better notes.

  • I wish you could do a 7 day study tutorial, from learning a new content,to studying it,to revising it and to test day

My trick to mind mapping is to simplify as much as possible. Replace words with images, and turn related key terms into mnemonics. Essentially make it as visual as possible and remove as many words as possible. Also, it doesn't have to be done in one session. Each time I come back to a mind map, I simply it further until I cannot. The key here is simplicity and clarity. Ultimately, our minds think visually first, so the ideal mind map should primarily consist of images.

TREE Mind Map method: 1. List all terms 2. Organize into key and sub terms 3. Write main terms onto blank page 4. Consider the thought process relating these main terms (T) 5. How do the sub terms relate to these main terms(R) 6.Use Expression(E) 7.Be Efficient(E) Watch the video for detailed explanation of each step🔥

Impressive - I'm new to iPad, new to Pencil 2, new to Apple Notes, new to GoodNotes, Freeform, etc. I was thinking all of this wasn't worth the effort. I'm 84 years old. Your video inspired me. Your method is fantastic. Thanks

Man this came at the PERFECT moment! I just started working at a company as a data analyst and I need to study the company at both a business and data structure level!! I wish I discovered your channel earlier in college. Thank you so much 💪🏽💪🏽
  • You guys are one of the only productivity channels where every single video is helpful. Just amazing, funny, and super helpful! Thanks a lot guys! Cheers!

All these doctors and nurses turning into content creators and influencers...probably making more than in healthcare.
  • Jen’s mom Beth here; Thank you, this helps. I’m retired yet always reading. I have adhd, narcolepsy, synesthesia + so your mind map at 8:55 is my brain before, during, and after - all while taking neat notes and writing in the margins. I also put “items in rooms”, make up “stories for lists”, and have a photographic memory. I get sensory overloaded and easily distracted. I like to doodle yet it never crossed my mind to do a Mind Map this way. Continued success. You have a new subscriber.

This is really helpful. I have always been into drawing and I am also a resident doctor looking for ways to make learning more "my own". I'm gonna give mind mapping a try. I feel like so much of medical info we have to learn I end up forgetting and I think the connections I make to the content plays a big part in that. Thanks for making great content, I look forward to the next video!

This video has been the BEST mind map guide I've ever watched on YouTube. Other videos are vague and their examples aren't complicated. A big list like this that needs work but goes into detail about how to sort out a topic to help it stick, is perfect. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this video. 🙏😊
  • I found this SUPER helpful since I am supposed to be a visual learner but I have never been able to mind map well (always just look like a big page of notes/words). I am greatly enjoying your channel and have learned SOOO much from you guys! I recommend you to everyone! I wish you guys would make a video about strategies for studying problem-based subjects (math, physics and chemistry) in addition to all your content-based (biology, geology, language, history, social sciences) strategies. The problem-based subjects is where I am currently struggling. Thanks for all that you do!!!
  • @ceafva
Been teaching MM for 30 years, it's about time someone started getting it right. Fantastic job! Well done. Thank you!!!!
  • This was so much helpful. I often find myself spaced out whenever facing pages and pages of traditionally written notes. Fortunately, I have been innovating my study methods thanks to this channel and I can feel the stress and pressure lessen. Thankss again

I have struggled integrating things in medicine and I have been in search of ways to be more effective with my approach. Coincidentally, pathology has been overwhelming since it’s sooo much. I remember you talking about the tree analogy and I love how you integrated it here. Thank you.
  • In the beginning I was struggling to understand chemistry but after doing some research (watching YouTube videos, including this channel) I've been doing mind mapping and holy crud it makes a difference. I finally understand the concepts more compared to when I first started doing the notes. I still need a bit of practice with how much time I spend and not writing definitions but I really do feel I can go on trhough the rest of the semester of my chemistry, especially since I need a full term classes for my scholarship. It was also hard for me since I was online and not in person. I would really like tothank ya'll for your content, which has helped me a lot. The only thing is how to teach myself the problems 🤔.

I truly enjoy joining in all these comprehsensive curated courses out there which do so much to help us defining relation ship fundraising, building self confidence, improving our health and wellness, forgiveness and meditation, avoiding vulnerability, Empowering the World through Education, and of course and most importantly - taking notes in order to get more done in less time .preferably by COB or sooner.
  • @abcdefg-hv2ks
Simply amazing!! I applied this to my note-taking and I started to get my course material a lot better, faster, and for a longer period without needing revision. I always ignored Mind maps because they seemed like a waste of time but they're in fact, really saving it.
  • @truthseeker922
I've been mind mapping for years. I thought I knew how to do it. This video just blew my mind. I'm pumped to go even deeper on mind mapping and make it more expressive and less weighed down by words. Also thinking about how terms relate to each other. Well done!!

Great stuff, thanks. I have severe dyslexia. Growing up in the American school system, meant I was on my own. I had to learn how "I" learned. It's amazing, people don't have a clue on how they learn. There is no right or wrong way, just your way.
