After a couple months of confusion after finishing devilman crybaby, and not being sure where to place it, I think I figured out the point of devilman cry baby. I can explain what I think is it's most important message. Some positivity in the seemingly nihilistic message of Devilman Crybaby.

It gets more depressed and nihilistic when you find from the manga that everything is just a endless loop to punish Satan
  • devilman crybaby is the anime where humans were more terrifying than the demons.

Akira: Dies Ryo: Maybe I don't wanna be the bad guy anymore.

"What was the point of devilman crybaby" to make ME a crybaby

The most horrible moment was seeing the dreadlocks kid dancing and smiling with the people who killed the rest of his friendsđź’€ the human heart can really be ugly
  • The dad crying scene was just... I have never seen such prolonged emotion in an animated show.

Ryo: "Im Satan" God: ITS REWIND TIME

I feel like when Akira died ryo finally understood that day with the kitten. He didn't get how Akira could get sad knowing that the kitten would die, but now he does- because that's how he feels with akira

In the manga it was confirmed that Ryo was in fact in love with Akira.
  • This anime did more in 10 episodes than most other anime can do in their entire runtime.

Really late to this one but you missed a crucial scene after the credits of the final episode: We see the newly-formed Earth, but this time, with two moons. The moon represented Ryo: An outsider who can only orbit the world of humans, but never truly be a part of it. But after the final credits, we see that Ryo (the moon) is no longer alone. The second moon represents Akira’s spirit, who will forever be by Ryo’s side.

If you don't know Japanese, there is symbolism with Ryo's and Akira's names. Ryo means "finish/ending/completion". Akira means "bright/light" and the single character is a combination of the sun and the moon.

“Why am I the only one talking?” Gee, idk dude, maybe it’s because you sliced your buddy in half
  • i think the biggest message is empathy. feeling the pain of others even tho you may not be going through what they are
  • It's called Devilman Crybaby because it turns you into one by the end of it. It really makes you realise how ugly humanity is but how beautiful it can be at the same time. It makes me thankful for the things I have. Very underrated. I don't think anything I've watched has ever made me feel things that this anime did. This touched me on a level nothing else ever has. I really believe this is an example of art at its peak.
