As a retired professional who just can't retire my brushes - both makeup and hair, I applaud your authenticity.  It really bothers me when film isn't accurate.  I also am a huge fan of the 30's, 40's and Victorian era.
  • I appreciate how you zoom in to areas you’re focusing on. I find most beauty gurus are so self conscious that they never do zoom ins cause you might see “flaws” but it makes tutorials so much harder.

40s to 60s golden era in my opinion

Your channel is probably the first showing videos with AUTHENTIC retro makeup, eventhough you use modern products. many other videos sell a winged eyeliner and a hair updo as 40s. You're amazing, thank you!

I love the 40's, but I prefer the red lipstick better for the decade as opposed to the dark pink

I love how you show a real interest in history and its relation to beauty, fashion and cosmetics. It's really interesting to see how all of these looks and techniques developed into the ones we're familiar with today!
  • You should go back even further! like a french aristocracy look!

WW2 was another big factor of makeup and style of the 1940s. Products were rationed and supporting your troops was very important for women after Pearl Harbor. Often using sex appeal to get war donations.

I actually learned something with these tutorials, and wanted to thank you! I never could understand that one difference between my Nanna and myself, the fact that she was astonished by my ability to walk out the door without "at least some lipstick". From your 50s video, I learned that her generation was effected by the lack of men, therefore requiring young women to always look their best, fully made up and dressed in order to attract a husband. even if it was to makes quick grocery run. My generation not only had many more choices in terms of lifestyle, marriage, careers, etc, but those choices influenced our priorities greatly. I have a new appreciation for our feminist fore-mothers.
  • Can you do like a old hollywood dark noir makeup look please? Love your videos!
  • @Zabrena
Thank you! :) YES! It's amazing what they used in a time period with so much strife! I can only imagine the stories your grandmother must have, wow! My favorite story of that period was when the nylon stockings were hard to get and the women would put makeup on their legs and have a girlfriend draw the seams on the back of their legs with eyeliner to mimic the stockings. Talk about resourceful!

I love 40's too it such a beautiful period and woman were so glamourous
  • @Zabrena
YES! I'm definitely inspired to continue with this as a series; it's so interesting to see where makeup began and what a taboo it was when it started. For example, in the 1800s prostitutes and actresses were the only ones known to wear heavy makeup so if a woman of society wore it, she had to be discreet and wear as little as possible. They didn't even want to be seen buying it! What a long way we've come!

I would love to see a 1970's punk tutorial!
  • You nailed it! I look back at old photos of my grandmother and great grandmother and you really got the essence of the time! I love the classy 40s look and look forward to more videos from you 😊
  • @magnoliasouth
The 40s are my favorite era and always will be. I love their clothes, their makeup, their hair and their movies. Many thanks for this!

I had passed by to watch the hooded eyes makeup tutorial and this is my 5th video in the last fifty minutes. Why didn't I find you earlier? It's not the products you use, it's the way you teach. Very helpful and very detailed. I also appreciate the fact that you do an extended research before a vintage makeup video. This is the real professional approach! Already a fan of you! Greetings from Greece!
  • @IsabellaDemarko
just addicted to your videos, you are so stunning and your videos are so much more helpful than most other beauty gurus that i've come across. wishing you health happiness and success for 2015! xXx
