One of the greatest console libraries of all-time can now be enjoyed with the very best possible image (and sound!) quality, with a hardware modification that adds pristine HDMI output to original hardware PlayStation 1 consoles. Is this the best way to experience PS1 on a modern display? What features do you get and how do they compare to the existing options? John Linneman and Audi Sorlie share their thoughts.

The way John looks at the camera at 1:43 killed me

"When you inviting me down for a playdate and sleep over " and then the Zoom on John's face LOL made me laugh so hard.

I remember my old friend from the 90's we used to play Doom with link cable for hours. He brought his 13 inch CRT TV from his home and it was ridiculous to setup. We ended up placing the TV on top of our school textbooks so that we had even viewing angle. My room used to get so hot we needed two fans to cool inside my room. The gaming back then used to be about gaming in purest form. It's kinda hard to explain to anyone that wasn't alive for it. The game used to be fun to play. Most had an awesome intro cutscene to hype us at the beginning, it was mandatory to not skip them because we loved it. The games were presented in a different way. Good old times!

Was expecting OSSC comparisons, got Audi to nonchalantly make John uncomfortable 10/10 would sleepover again.

I just wish that Sony would bring out a system that plays all of its previous console games.

I'm barely 2 minutes in and it's easy to tell you guys had a lot of fun with this video. I had to echo the sentiment, well done guys haha! The hardware itself looks really impressive, my jaw dropped at the Street Fighter footage.

14:00 Yup biggest improvement is sound. Even with youtube compression it sounds amazing

Audi's overall improvement is trully a sight to see, that's what you get when you tag along the man, the myth, the legend, Mr.Linneman. Great work guys!!!

Reminder that there's a tool that let's you patch dithering out of any given PS1 iso. If you're using burned discs or one of the ODE options, this is a great option (although you are replacing dithering with colour banding)

The best comparison would have been with a PSTV running Adrenaline and Sharpscale plugin with HDMI output as the PSTV runs PS1 games via hardware, not emulation as it has the PSP CPU inside it which natively runs PS1 CPU code. MLIG also did a video on the PSTV with sharpscale.

I adore hearing you talk about the PS1. Its got such history and a massive and varied library, and the technical abilties pushed by the devs throughout its lifespan just never cease to amaze.
