  • I just did this about a month ago at my son's house. He passed away in August, and I had to prepare his house for sale. I considered whether to replace the aerator, but I couldn't figure out the right size. I did exactly what you demonstrated in the video.

I’ll add that it’s a good idea to cover the drain in case something is accidentally dropped.

A few years back I learned about aerators and now I clean or check mine every time I wash my sink. It's crazy that we didn't all grow up knowing about these and how dirty they can get. Great video as always!
  • I've always used a rag to remove the aerators, but I like your silicone jar pad better. Pickin up one today. Thxs

Man this guy never disappoints. Just noticed this morning mine was clogged. Gonna fix it tonight now.
  • Thanks boss, saved me a call to my local plumber. My low pressure from my kitchen faucet was due to a clogged aerator.

What a great, simple video. I strive to be the home owner this man is. Thanks for the content.
  • I just followed this and fixed my own sink. I feel so accomplished. Thank you! 🙌🏼
  • Quick & Easy, Thanks for the details on cleaning & adjusting the water. 💧
  • Cool project! I have numerous faucets to deal with at my apartment building, and the money has been tight during 2022.

I work at a hospital now as an electrician. We literally have to remove ALL aerators in the hospital. They are not allowed. The cause too much bacteria 🦠 build up and are an infection control risk. The hospital also tests many sinks for Legionnaires Disease and ironically sinks which are not in use can have it as well. I don't prefer to wash my hands in sinks with an aerator but if it stops bacteria from forming I thinks it is good. Great video!
  • Also helps to have water softener working well. SC has videos on this as well 👍
  • If for some reason you can’t get the aerator off you can fill up a ziplock with vinegar and soak it that way. Just use a rubber band to secure it.

This worked like a charm on my kitchen faucet. Many thanks for posting!

Good video. A slightly different issue: If the faucet doesn’t leak and the aerator is clean, the problem could be a low-flow aerator designed to conserve water (in areas where water is scarce.) I replaced a low-flow aerator with a high-flow one from Amazon around $10 following the procedure shown except installing the new aerator rather than cleaning the old one. The result is that hot water reaches the sink much faster! You still control flow as usual.

An interesting video might be how to get to the aerator on a retractable kitchen faucet. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I was able too unscrew it using the jar opener! No damage. Thanks!!!!!
  • Thank you so much for sharing this video. I couldn't find the right tool to use, but I have plenty of jar openers. It worked like a charm.

You could also use an ultrasonic cleaner (if you have one)
