There is no better friend than a friend who shows up early to your gun fight so you can live!.....

One of the most underrated performances ever. Val Kilmer was mesmerizing in this role. He just about stole every scene he was in. The oscar people failed to do their homework that year!

Trademark line, cigarette pull, step-smoke release-head lift-peripheral light leaving half of his face in shadow… I think it’s one of the most artful, exquisite entrances (especially surprise entrances) into a scene in all of film making. Masterful performance and masterfully shot. So brilliant.
  • That grin on Doc's face when he says I wasn't makes me think of the Grim Reaper coming to collect

"Why Johnny Ringo, you look like someone just walked over your grave" 😅
  • Ringo just about shit himself when he realized it was Doc. Great acting. Very hard to portray false bravado because you're acting out someone who is pretending to be confident. Act too confident and Ringo's underlying nervousness doesn't come through. Act too scared and you lose the essence of Ringo's character. Val was obviously phenomenal, too.
  • I'm afraid the strain was more than he could bear......priceless.

I love this scene, this was one of Val Kilmer's best performances, if not the best. The real Johnny Ringo was found next to a creek with a gunshot to the head, the consensus by, most historians, is that he shot himself, so I liked how they included the head shot in this scene. Great freaking movie, a top 10 all time western, in my opinion.

To this day in my opinion one of the most fantastic modern era westerns ever made. Amazing cast incredible acting and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday was a perfect choice. And Kurt Russell playing Wyatt Earp it was as if he was Wyatt Earp's distant relative because they looked so similar

Val Kilmer thoroughly deserved an Oscar for this role
  • Awesome scene and when Ringo starts to try to back peddle from his previous bravado and say he was kidding, Doc answers coldly and with menace "I wasn't"

I just love the part when Doc comes out of the shadows as the sun hits his face blowing out the cigarette smoke saying confidently,"I'm your huckleberry." I also love it when Johnny stops still, realizing that he was about to be a dead man soon cause' he knew Doc would get the job done! He knew Doc was a stone cold badass!!
  • Easily one of the best scenes in a western. Both actors delivered wonderful performances, both subtle and dramatic. This is the modern western film of our time, and this scene is one of the reasons why.
