Join me for a summer minimalist closet tour. I share the challenge rules, more benefits of dressing with less, when the new Project 333 book is coming out, why I include a sweater and warm scarf in my summer collection and answer lots of great questions.

That moment when I realize I have over 356 outfits to wear but finding myself saying “I have nothing to wear” when looking in my closet. Yikes now moving across country, I don’t want to lug all these clothes with me. It is very overwhelming. Thank you for showing me how its easy to live with so much less.

Love 33(3)..... I never knew it was for 3 months.... The first time I did it, it was 33 items PERIOD! My goal is much smaller space so 33 PERIOD works for me. I'm not a shoe or clothes shopper anyway. I've lost 70lbs in the last year so starting over.
  • The color, lol! Recently I took my mother-in-law to a doctor appointment. On the drive there she had a little talk (very sweet about it) with me about my wardrobe. She wondered why I always wear black, and told me how nice I looked last Fall when I wore a mustard colored shirt, once. Haha! I am 52 and I suppose black makes me look a little harsh, but I don't care. I am comfortable in black. For her sake though, I will wear my 2-3 colorful-ish shirts when I see her:)

I love how two thirds of the closet is empty: this shows that we really don’t need that many clothes.

I remember when I found Project 333 years ago. It was a shock to the system to think of only 33 things - until you learn how much you dont have to count. The 1st time I did I had 43 items - but that was out of fear. I think I only used 25 items. Ive done it on and off for over 6 years now. This was also hugely helpful when I had a major surgery early last year, it was easy to shop for what I needed for recovery clothes and not over buy. One of my biggest things I’ve noticed is how I dont over buy. I might think I need 4-5 shirts, but I’ll start with 2-3, then add more if I feel I need to later. I now give myself breathing room. Courtney thank you for the gentle guiding hand , you have helped me so much.

This awkward moment when I initially have less than 33 items of clothing but want to wear even less.

I’ve been watching a lot of minimalist videos lately but there are some issues with this. There is a weather issue; last week we went from 0 Celsius to -22C (felt like -32 because of strong wind) so for example winter capsule must be bigger up here, I had 4 pieces of clothing + jacket on me one day last week. The central heating makes it also challenging; indoors is kept usually +20 - + 23 and when you leave your home/work it drops down up to 50 degrees. So a lot of layers are needed. Then there is the snow; last winter there was basically no snow, at the moment there is 40-50 centimeters of snow. So the need of certain pieces of clothing can be sudden and there will be no time to go shopping; so I have some items for those winter days.

You guys are too cute. It’s like hearing about it from friends, easy and relatable. Keep having fun!

I started going thru my bags and bags of clothes that I haven't laid eyes on in a couple years. I found it tough because I forgot how many beautiful clothes I have. I will keep plugging away.

I live in a totally different climate here in Germany, but I totally understand your point of keeping sweaters and scarfs during the summer. The past maybe 10 years I've been struggling to have a summer-only/winter-only wardrobe, which I had before, but due to climate change seasons have become totally unpredictable. This week (still spring) we had 22°C on Monday (72°F) and on Friday it was -5°C (23°F) and it was snowing during the day. So for me I always struggle to put away warm sweaters, but also not having some lighter clothes around. What to do? :(

This project got me started on downsizing my closet years ago.... These days I don't really think about it, but hover around 40 items total for year round use.

Thanks for the video, but even more for designing Project 333! I participated in 2014 & learned so much about myself, as well as some of the lessons you mention in posts. My husband & I no longer have a dresser or chest in our home because everything fits in our closet! I don't practice the project every season because I have about 125 clothing items; I'm wearing them out & will not replace many of them, so in the future I'll own even fewer. Thank you!

I'm 60 years-old, recently disabled (3 years). My life is much different than my past. Over the last year I have been moving toward what I recently learned is a trend! 2020 is my year o the f 333 Challenge and FunCheaporFree.com challenge!!!!! It's so empowering! Thanks for your great advice!

Thank you I really like this concept ❤

I'm intrigued by this 💡 idea. Considering trying it!
  • Thanks for this, Courtney! (& Bailey!) I learned of you through The Minimalists and appreciate the concept of Project 333. I’ve pared down my wardrobe significantly over the last couple of years, but have yet to give Project 333 a try. Watching your video inspired me, though, and I’ve decided to do it for this summer (and I’ve made a list of what my 33 items will be). Thanks for the inspiration! 😊
