How to Tap with an electric drill

Published 2015-02-19
This short video shows a method to tap thin gauge (in this example 18 ga. [.048] galvanized sheet metal) using a hand held drill motor with an 8-32 tap in the chuck. Required: a drill motor with variable speed rpms. In the video I said "9/64" drill hole, but actually I was using a No. 29 drill hole (.136). Said that wrong in the video, but didn't want to do the film over. A little over two hours to tap 300 holes - much, much faster than manually hand-cranking the tap into the hole and back out again. The glove is recommended for holding the part - if the tap comes into contact with it, no damage. Not one part was scrapped. Oh, the music in the background is a CD featuring Randy Crawford. Great jazz to tap holes by. ddd :o))
