Tbh, this AU would sit well more with the manga readers if you had Shoto be adopted by Enji because of his abilities and Mari Kusakabe could not do anything because of something (debt/accident/they thought Shoto was dead). Because one, Shinra and Sho Kusakabe are of virgin birth (Yes, yes, a Catholic reference in the manga). Mari Kusakabe had Shinra when she was in high school while still being a virgin, and because of that, she was disowned by her parents (Sho and Shinra's grandparents). Sho is of virgin birth too and Mari Kusakabe has always been a virgin until her disappearance after morphing to an demon infernal. (Since infernals can't really do 'it' and they don't have reproduction systems once you go up in flames)
