Julian Assange lands in Australia a free man | ABC News

Published 2024-06-26
Julian Assange has landed in Australia, ending a long-running legal case that ended in a United States court.
The WikiLeaks founder’s plane touched down in Canberra just after 7:30pm on Wednesday 26th June.
Earlier in the day he pleaded guilty to a single espionage charge in a federal US court as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
He was sentenced to "time already served", meaning he is now a free man.
Assange's brother Gabriel Shipton watches and reacts as Julian emerges from the plane that brought him to Australia.
