I teach a Creative Narrative class and just last week I introduced my college students to your videos as a prime example of storytelling, especially since you can tell such compelling narratives without any dialogue. I remember being in sixth grade when I first saw "Animator vs. Animation" and I can only watch in awe at how incredible this journey has been. Thank you for this Odyssey.
  • @ANormalCommentor
I really like how the sunglasses dude versus Orange fight basically harkens back to the title of the film, Animator vs. Animation, by having the sunglasses dude use Animator tools while Orange creates and uses Animations. This is simply phenominal.

I love how in just this first one, it seems like they’re trying to arrest TCO for their crimes against stickmanity, but at the end and through the next one it becomes clear that Victim is going after TCO for what he knows about The Animator or because he suspected they were working together. Whether it’s a warped version of justice or just plain revenge is open to interpretation right now, but I love the narrative without the dialogue.

15:35 even though he’s gray i really hope he’s the victim from alan’s very first animator vs animation. i remember someone saying that if alan brought back the victim he would make him gray. on the walls you can also see the lasso, color picker, brush, eraser, and the hand. all of which he used against alan in the fight they had.
  • I just realized, TSC is kind of growing into the role of being the Animator himself! Even without Alan's PC present, it was still an animator versus animation!
  • 7:54 Chosen: go there and defeat them. TSC: I can't. Chosen: calm down... (proceeds to push him towards the bad guys so they can try to kill him) you can do it!
  • @WeegeepieYT
Hoooly crap how do you guys pull this out so fast and so high budget, not to mention you probably have most if not the whole plot figured out already

I love how each of the mercenaries has his own style of animation and they take advantage of that to fight, the pixels, he has the sword, the guns, the attack of jojos, the rock painting has the spear, the bow, the hulk shape, game&watch has the slow animation, the signal with which he erases the bird and the stickman with the glasses has the magnifying glass, the loop, the selector, it's incredible the variety of animation styles that this has

The reason this group of people is better than something like glitchtale (in terms of animation) is that they use all of their previously established settings like REAL places that interact with the characters in a way that makes everything feel more real despite them being stick figures. The talent these people have is incredible.
  • It’s insane how rewatchable Alan Beckers videos are despite stick figures being one of the most simple and basic characters yet. His talent is incredible!
  • I love how Alan went from 2D in the first episodes, to semi 3D, and now finally fully 3D! Really shows his incredible improvement!

I love how you did the animated drawings that orange creates. The textures, the white colors, and how it slices smoothly.

I’ve taken the personal liberty of naming the mercenaries. 7:46 I’ll call him Primal because he looks like those cavemen stickfigures painted on cave walls and he also carries hunter gatherer style weaponry (spears, bow and arrows) 7:49 I’ll call him Pixels because he looks like the embodiment of the genre of pixel art and works like pixel art aswell. Like with his head turret. 7:43 I’ll call him Caution-Man because he looks like that guy on all those danger signs like next to pools and stuff. 7:39 I’ll call him Agent Smith because he just looks like a Smith and his glasses make him look like an agent. Hence Agent Smith.

Something I noticed while TSC was originally trying to fend off the mercenaries, the specific things he created were actually poor matches against the three mercenaries he sent them against. For Ballista, he sent flying sharks at him. That’s crazy. The man is looks like he’s made for crazy. Maybe something cold and calculated that is able to adapt and punish his moves would be better suited to fight him. For Primal, he sent a rhino at him. Seeing from his strength and style of weaponry, he is the embodiment of ancient human hunters, which were proficient at killing large creatures. While he is able to deal with something big and tough, what about something small and plentiful? His strengths wouldn’t help all too much when there are just so many tiny things attacking him at once. For Hazard, he sent a bird. Just a bird. A normal bird too. While it did catch him off guard, it was only an ordinary bird that he was easily able to dispose of once he got his bearings. His image would depict dangers that, while sometimes sudden, are foreseeable. Maybe it would be beneficial to send something otherworldly and truly unnatural at him, that way, he would hopefully struggle at figuring out what to do against such a danger. I might be wrong on wether or not some of these would work, but it still interests me to think of what things would work better to fight against each mercenary. I got nothing on Agent, I’ve not seen enough of his capabilities to think of potential ways to fight against him.
  • @MANGLORIOUS
I LOVE how all the Stick Mercs have diffirent styles and powers to diffirentiate them. An 8bit ninja, a cavepainting hunter, a sign fighter(who is animated with more choppy and stiff pose and I find it so damn cool) and a Stickman with the ability to harness photoshop. It’s such a clever way to diffirentiate the mercs and show their powers. Typically lackeys are hard to distinguish from each other but each of these guys are unique and it’s so cool! Damn Indie Animation has been eating good lately, the Lackadaisy Pilot, Monkey Wrench Ep 2, and now AvA S6 E1.
  • 8:26 I loved this part of TCO seeming to realize TSC has no idea what he's doing and is now in genuine danger. (At least that's how I interpreted it.) There's so much emotion in these little stick figures and I just don't know Alan does it. It's amazing
