Hiking Pine Mountain Scenic Trail, Highlands Section in Letcher County, Kentucky

Published 2013-12-03
A video review of a short portion of the Highlands Section of the Pine Mountain Scenic Trail in southeastern Kentucky, in Letcher County near the town of Whitesburg. I entered at the trail head off Highway 119 near Whitesburg, Kentucky, and continued past Flamingo Shelter, several nice cliff overlooks, Eagle Arch, the awesome Lemon Squeezer, High Rock, and finally Mars Rock. Time did not allow me to explore further. This is a strenuous trail, with a lot of steep up and downs as the trail basically follows the saw tooth ridge of Pine Mountain. If you are in the area and are looking for an awesome hike, this trail does not disappoint.

Camping is permitted anywhere EXCEPT inside the boundaries of the Bad Branch Nature Preserve. The are designated camping areas or you can enjoy dispersed backcountry camping on USFS lands.
  • Nice video! I am hoping to make it back out to High Rock soon. Thanks for sharing!
  • this video is spectacular as is your other hiking videos. There seems to be a lot of leaves with color for early December though. The communicatins tours and the close to civiliation is almost what seems like a law in the easern united states. You are thankful for it a lot of times since there are common animal attacks and dramatic weather changes with hardly no signal. So it is mostly for safety purposes. Hope you can one day put up another video on more of the par! Keep hiking and I'll keep viewing! LOL! :)
