We often get questions about the differences between Catrike's three 26 inch rear wheel "touring" models; the Catrike Expedition, Catrike 559, and the Catrike Dumont. So in today's video Davy talks through all of the features of these touring trikes and why you might get one over the other if you are riding long distance.

This was so helpful. I hope to someday get a 559, they look so great!

I tested a lot of trikes. Almost bought a 559 and then I rode a Dumont. It’s a night and day comparison. The roads are not all the great in my area and vibration kills me. The full suspension of the Dumont takes all the meanness out of the road. I’ve had my Dumont a couple years now and the only regret I have was taking so long to get it.

What if you'd rather stick with the 406 or 20 inch tires
  • Very nice breakdown of the differences. I test rode a dumont but wasn't real thrilled with it. The seat felt too upright, it closed down my hip angle. I need to visit you guys and try out an expedition.
  • I’m a proud owner of a 559 and a 700. I ride them interchangeably all year round for over 10,000 miles per year. I ride strictly on paved trails, rail trails, etc. the 559 is my Lexus sedan and the 700 is my Porsche. The price upgrade to get the suspension of a,Dumont is way too much and adds weight and the 559 is super comfy with the great seats and Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires. The 700 is so much lighter and faster but the rider has to be trim and agile to get in and out. The folding operation is really a dirty pain in the butt process. Get grease everywhere and it’s still clumsy to maneuver. Easier just to get a good trike rack like HITCHRIDER on the rear of the car . If you have an suv or minivan then just get ramps and roll it in unfolded. I’ve ridden my Catrikes tens of thousands of miles and they are the best made, most reliable products out there. Their product support is incredible. My advice to any new customer is spend a few extra bucks and get exactly the model, you want with the options you want. It’s worth it.
