from some reason steel is flammable (the creator is canadian, hates america), there is a mod for this

having a colonist start with a legendary plasteel longsword in their belongings is NUTS luck the hell

If you play with ideology DLC then there is a counsel by the moral guide that helps if successful to remove the worst mood debuff. There are also mods, one is called snap out of it to get others to try to calm down others. Rimworld can be so brutal even to seasoned players. And yes, steel is flammable, stone is really the best option, and if you are having issues with fire, research firefoam poppers. Especially for the stockpile and freezers.
