Lyrics:

Got it outta my system, didn’t I?
Did my 2 years on Tinder, didn’t I?
Well I wanted to be wanted,
Suddenly I’m wanting more
So we got a bit tangled didn’t we
It’s the best thing that’s happened to me
Got exactly what I wanted
What if I don’t want this?
Am I missing something?
Cause half the time I can’t love right
And I can’t have sex and we both get quiet
Boy I must be one fucked up guy
Oh my God what a crazy mind
It’ll be fine quick let’s get married
Man I wish we were 85
The rest of our life wouldn’t sound so scary
Oh I’m spiraling now
Let’s get kids and a house
Though I’m riddled with doubts
Is this how we turn out?
Hey I love how you laugh when we’re alone
How my dog’s always happy when you’re home
But my parents used to laugh too
And I think they had a dog
I don’t know
I don’t know
But you’re late and you’re messy, aren’t you?
And I need too much attention, from you
Though we shrug it off as nothing
Life is pretty long,
It could turn into something
Cause half the time I can’t love right
And I’m half yours and you’re all mine
Boy I must be one fucked up guy
Oh my God what a crazy mind
It’ll be fine quick let’s get married
Man I wish we were 85
The rest of our life wouldn’t sound so scary
Oh I’m spiraling now
Let’s get kids and a house
Though I’m riddled with doubts
Is this how we turn out?
Is this how we turn out?
Everyone’s got it
Everyone’s got it
Everyone’s got it
All figured out
Everyone’s got it
What do I not get
Everyone’s got it
All figured out
Don’t overthink it
One day at a time kid
Add up the days
You got someone to do life with
Don’t overthink it
It’s not fucking science
Add up the days
You got someone to do life with
Don’t overthink it
One day at a time kid
Add up the days
You got someone to do life with
Love isn’t big, kid
It’s little and quiet
Let’s do today
I think you’ll turn out to like it

I've been here since part 1, I feel old
  • @T-Creator
Everyone is talking about the Star Wars trilogies or the lord of the rings trilogy but the turning out trilogy is truly the best of them all

"Love isnt big kid, its little and quiet. Lets do today, i think you'll turn out to like it" Chills man. Solid chills

Jesus what a song “and I’m half yours and your all mine” exactly how I feel right now

When Turning Out's guitars started to play, followed by the voices in Turning Out pt.ii, that's the moment I couldn't hold my emotions any more

My and my girlfriend of 2 years have been really thinking about the future lately and this song hit almost every worry we have. I didn't know it was possible for a song to hit this close

Let’s go Ryan! I was at the Hollywood concert May 14 when you played the trilogy of all three turning out songs. Keep up the good work!

this is easily the most satisfying ending to a story i've ever heard in music. turning out and turning out pt ii were honestly probably tied for my favourite song ever, and i think this song will soon make that tie three-way. i'd expect nothing less from you guys. <333

It's crazy to think that we were once different people when Turning Out 1 and 2 came out and now here we are. Holy, what a journey.

That end, though... "Don't overthink it One day at a time, kid Add up the days You got someone to do life with Love isn't big, kid It's little and quiet Let's do today I think you'll turn out to like it" ... If this is the last Turning Out song, then this is the perfect ending. There isn't quite a way to describe the vibes that end gives off, but the closest thing I can think of is almost like a parent or mentor who had gone through some crap and come to find things out on their own is teaching a student or a kid about what they learned without getting into detail To continue my thoughts, I'mma be honest, that end was something I really needed to hear, as someone who is super uncertain about anything relating to love and someone who loves to overthink everything and not just let things be (and that includes ways not relating to love), that ending REALLY speaks to me. Just... Words can't describe how much I need to hear that some days

After Pt. ii, I was really scared of if this was going to continue the seemingly tragic storyline. That last segment, as a result, hit like a truck. If they never make a Pt. iv, I think they've got a wonderful final message right here.

As someone who is Aroace, this trilogy actually speaks out to me. It starts off with you meeting someone that you think you like in part 1, but in part 2, you then figure out that you actually aren’t in love with them and is truly heartbreaking. And finally in part 3, is accepting that you cant feel romantic love and wishing that person luck to finding someone that they truly love. It’s one hell of a ride if you listen to it all in one sitting, and I am really glad that you can help express this feeling through song. Hence why this is my favorite album, it talks about problems we are facing, and how we can overcome them and find who we truly are.

"Let's do today, I think that you'll like it"... This is such an important lyric for me. Even if it's in the context of just, today, in this relationship, instead of worrying about whatever future problems will turn up... It's so good as general advice, too. Adam, Jack -john-, Ryan, and all the producers and helpers making AJR music a reality, thank you so much for giving me a way to put my feelings into words.

All three Turning Outs gave me shivers. Never gets old.
  • @itanji96
initially when i first heard this on the album, i skipped it a lot because i couldn’t relate much but now as of writing this, it’s hitting me hard
  • @qhyooba
HOLY! The line were Ryan talks about laughing and how the his dog loves the other person and then says "But my parents used to laugh too And I think they had a dog" AJR's parents are divorced so basically, he's saying that although they are happy together, they could end up like his parents! MIND BLOWN

Man, this song is crazy. The layering evoked an emotional response from me and I almost started tearing up, and that’s saying something because I never tear up while listening to music.
