Dave: "I'm married to a good scientist and cookbook author, meals are going to be AMAZING" Anne: "here's some burnt corn and rancid watermelon"
  • she’s so dedicated to her craft that she draws her blood and ruins her microwave for us, i gotta respect that

I think the reason behind that 'highlighter hack' on the permanent marker comes from the fact that it DOES work on a whiteboard. If you accidentally write with permanent marker instead of whiteboard marker, you can get the permanent marker off by tracing over it with whiteboard marker, and they will both come off.
  • A trick for permanent marker is to use rubbing alcohol. Most permanent marker is alcohol base. And the more alcohol you add to it the more diluted the color will be. You just have the stain in the alcohol for a while and you will end up removing the color. Learned that hack as an art student
  • Anne puts so much effort into these, she made SHIRTS, with labels, and her logo! Anne really goes for quality over quantity and I love her for that

If Dave doesn't eat it, you know it's bad! Really appreciated the stain remover comparisons. Very useful info!

this is the most chaotic debunking vid I've ever seen , from free popping popcorn on the cob to dave wrestling a concrete melon cocoon and holding fistfuls of rancid watermelon meat to his face , true masterwork of our time
  • @thelionoob
the baking soda and vinegar obsession is not just with clothing stains. At least in Brazil, most hack articles are about them. "make your bathroom tiles look brand new with only two ingredients" "clean your stove with these two ingredients you have at home" "clean the bottom of your pans with this simple trick". There's often lemon involved too, if you're feeling fancy.

Stain remover company: "Hello, Ann Reardon, famous for baking and debunking advertising/hack claims, would you like to do an ad for our cleaner?" Ann: "Yes, but I want to make sure that it does what you say it does, and you're not going to just hand me a new shirt for the 'after' shot." Stain remover company has left the chat

This honestly feels way too high production to be on YouTube. Ann only ever impresses me with her quality and dedication. Dave's resilience is of course no small feat either.
  • The main thing I learnt from the stain test is to avoid wearing white. A lot of the only-partially-removed stains would be less noticeable on a colour or pattern other than plain white.

For anyone wondering how to get rid of chocolate stains, chocolate needs a special enzyme to dissolve and get rid of. You have to either specifically get a cleaner with that enzyme (I don't remember the name of that enzyme), or you can do what I do: wipe the chocolate off, and start immediately sucking on the stain. Your saliva naturally produces that enzyme. I've gotten chocolate out of numerous clothes this way, even with white shirts, without any hint of blotches for where the chocolate stain initially occurred. The only caveat is to make sure your mouth is clear of chocolate before you start sucking, or else it will make the stain worse. Also, make sure to excuse yourself from the room if you're at a party, or else you're going to get some pretty weird looks. 😅
  • Can we all recognise that the tiny coffee jug was the cutest thing ever . Great video as usual 😊
  • That watermelon hack was very amusing and it was good to see Dave back up and running. Thanks again for bringing science and honesty to this little eddy of YouTube. It is getting harder to distinguish the real from the fake.
  • Dave dropping the control watermelon with a "gross, no" without even a taste (seriously probably unsafe to taste at this point lol) is everything I'm living for.

Actual stain removal hack— always remove stains from the back. If you remove from the front, you’re pushing that stain all the way into and through the fibers and it is more likely to stick. If you use stain remover (detergent, pretreat, whatever you’re using) from the back, the stain only has to lift back out of the fibers it’s already in contact with.
  • @Lemonade20016
I just want to note that when the liquids pooled like that on the surface of the shirt, it could mean that the shirt is brand new and hasn't had a wash to remove the protective coating on the fibers that makes them slightly water resistant. It comes off after the first wash. It might have led to why some of your stains lifted without treatment, it is possible they didn't penetrate as deeply as a worn shirt. Great video nonetheless!

The cement hack “preserves” watermelon by making sure you literally can’t eat the watermelon. Who else besides Anne and Dave would be so dedicated to trying to get it out? 😂😂
  • @juhlsghouls
I can 100% vouch for soaking a fabric with oxyclean. I’ve used it to remove red wine from vintage lace. Also pen ink can usually be removed with high percentage of Isopropyl Alcohol soaked much like Ann’s marker trick.
  • You two are legends. YouTube really need to get their act together and stop those other channels from posting such harmful and dangerous hacks that anyone with any common sense knows they're either going to fail or even make matters worse. Love you guys 👍🏼👍🏼
