  • This is one of the lesser known launches but by far the most important one. If this one failed, there would be no SpaceX today. If this one didn't go perfectly as planned, SpaceX wouldn't have gotten any of the NASA contracts.

Then 5 years later they will land a rocket on a boat.

This launched on: 28 September 2008, then just 12 years later, we have two Astronauts on the ISS.

just reading elon musk biography, chapter about the 4th attempt... without this success space.x wouldnt exist! well done guys!
  • @VeryFamousActor
From this to Falcon Heavy. Here's to another decade of SpaceX leading the space flight industry in innovation! Next stop, Mars and the BFR!
  • @clonetriplesix
How far this company has come. Congratulations on yesterday's incredible success!

Reading Liftoff by Eric Berger right now. The context it provides for this video really makes this seem like one of the most epic moments of this century so far.
  • @fffUUUUUU
And now, almost 10 years later in 2018 "Starman waiting in the sky...". Kudos SpaceX team!
  • @SpainSpace
After reading Liftoff! by Eric Berger, watching this launch and hearing the cheering during stage sep hits different. They were fucking exhausted and worked up their asses on that shitty atoll to get Falcon 1 to the heavens. And they delivered. If any of the team members ever comes across this stranger's comment almost 15 years later: Good fucking job.

Damn, look how far SpaceX has come. From everything depending on the success of a single flight to launching with a car driven by a mannequin blasting David Bowie in the vacuum of space while two boosters land in a picture perfect moment. Great things start from the humblest of beginnings.
  • @ViperEye
A make or break mission, remember that.
  • @Jaggith
Here after reading Berger's new book. Amazing stuff.
  • @dyingearth
Read Eric Berger's book Liftoff, the process to get this vehicle to launch is covered in Chapter 9 (8 Weeks, which details the insane effort to put together the booster, doing mid air surgery on a deflating rocket structure in an unpressurized environment) and Chapter 10 (Flight Four).

Look where we are now. Thank you elon. Getting the world excited about space travel again is no easy task. Making a sustainable and profitable rocket travel model is not easy. And taking it upon yourself to lead humanity into the true last great frontier is nearly impossible but you are doing it. All humankind owes you a thank you
  • Reading the book "Lift off" and watching this is amazing 👏. It's like are there with them feeling the intense nervousness
