Pig Butchering already sounds bad as it is, but you’ll be surprised by the real meaning of it being even worse! Journalist Lindsey Kennedy did a fascinating investigation on the world of scams - and it’s scary, and it’s dangerous. Similar to BBC Three's Hunting the Catfish Gang documentary series in Bangkok, it's crazy what goes on in these places, and the world must know. #scams

I had a scammer call me and say my kid was in jail and need 1500 dollars bail, i told them nope I would never bail my kid out of jail, get yourself into trouble get yourself out, the guy tried every excuse from the jail is full of drug dealers and gang members, its your responsiblity as a parent ect ect ect. My kid was in the other room home on leave from the army.
  • There's the Grandmother Scam. I got a call , a male asking for help. He said he was my grandson. I asked why did he sound funny. He said his lips and mouth had stitches in it. He told me that he'd drank alcohol and hit a car. He needed 5 thousand dollars for bail out of jail. He gave me a phone number of a lawyer and a case number. My son, a cop was at my house. The so-called lawyer called me. My son took the phone and told the "lawyer " that he would give him a number to call and told him it would be a three way call and determine if he was legit. The man asked what was the number to. My son told him that it was the Unit Police Post. The lawyer hanged up the phone. The caller had a Middle Eastern accent but he was trying to act like his mouth was sore. I've worked with Middle Eastern doctors before. That's why the voice sounded slightly familiar to me.

So glad I was able to catch this. I'm a BSA Compliance Specialist and Certified Fraud Investigator for a financial institution. Education and getting people to listen and understand is key. I've seen people lose millions and pig butchering is huge right now, but I've dealt with all of these scams. I wish more people would delve into these topics.

Lindsey Kennedy exhibits a lot of signs of severe PTSD herself, I hope she is somewhat looking after herself and there is someone watching after her wellbeing. Poor people but also poor Lindsey. This has been a great bit of work! Well done, Lindsey!
  • It's so good to see people who are trying to expose modern-day slavery and trying to make a difference. You can't change the world, but you can help a few people and it's worth it.

That’s why I can’t believe that people put info and pictures of their kids on line.

A older lady I worked for got a call said he was her grandson and used the real grandsons name, He told her he was in a car crash and his nose was broken. Long story short he needed bail money and could they send it to his bank account. I told her to hang up and phone her grandson first she did and found out her real grandson was at home safe and sound .

I worry so much for my family, because of things like this it’s important to inform your family to be aware of these scams, not all of my family even knows how to use social media. It makes me so angry that these scams exist I feel sorry for anyone who has ever been affected, imagine working hard your whole life for everything to be taken from you. And The fact they go for the vulnerable is disgusting.

IMO...i think this is the most important interview you've done Andrew. Lindsay, you're amazing and i love you. ❤️
  • @JK-tt2um
I think scams work when they've caught a person off guard. All of us have these moments every day!
  • @elfurlong2152
Tonight I have watched BBC3 " Hunting the Catfish Gang " is exactly what you are talking about. Filming a victim going to Bangkok and filming the compounds. Showing people being interviewed. Also beaten. It really is bad and trafficking. Being sold from one place to another. All believing they are going to a normal job and can't get out. Def worth a watch
  • This is a shocking and disheartening subject, but I and my family and thousands of others will be wiser and safer because of this podcast. Lindsay is an intelligent crime-buster, a real Hero! Thank you, Andrew, great interview - wow.
  • Treat your phone like your front door. You don’t answer the door to strangers, don’t respond to strangers on your phone.
  • @louiseames404
This is shocking...it seems that the horrific things in this messed up world continue to get more and more depraved. I thought I was unshockable, but this cruel reality and it's sheer numbers is next level! I cling to my faith in these times and pray for all those who are caught up in these terrors and living nightmares. I have lived through repeated shocking traumatic events, taken many many years of therapy and prayer support to live with and survive these things and losses and my heart goes out to all those affected by this barbaric treatment. Such a cruel world. I thank God for the rare lights in the darkness and pray for protection for Lindsey and anyone else involved in providing help to those desperately seeking a way out. Praying too for our loved ones to be protected from the sophisticated hateful scams, that are becoming far too commonplace. Thank you, Andrew for highlighting this and thank you Lindsey for your courage and tenacity, stay safe, love and prayers 🙏🙏🙏
  • Thank you Lindsey for the incredibly difficult work you do in an impossible job. Thank you Andrew for bringing this to the forefront.

It’s terrible how humans can act once they lose morals and dehumanise others
  • @sarahsimpson8770
Thank you Andrew for an illuminating interview. It is heartbreaking to know this situation exists and because of human greed it is difficult to next to impossible to stop. Hopefully with this type of publicity people will stop responding to requests for money and their existence will no longer be profitable.

ANDREW : This was SUCH an eye opener and such a relevant issue. Thank You for bringing this out in the light!! How does this young Beautiful Soul get to be so WISE on these important issues 'world-wide' ?! This was SO educational for me because I am usually rude to scammers or simply talk forever to waist their time.
