**Read The Description**

On this hike, I returned to the open lava tube to get a video of the new beehive.

Not the same area but a peek into what my long series of Hawaii lava tube hikes on the Big Island of Hawaii will be.

This one is mostly above-ground with only some brief underground parts.

I move slowly as most of the hiking is technical and tripping and falling are a real danger.
Also to show you as much detail as possible.

They were very quiet so you can hardly even hear them.
The hissing/static background noise is the hive.
I will have one more follow-up video of the bees coming soon.

This is yet another addition to my new series of hiking videos.
They will appear in my Hike-U-Mentaries playlist.
If you're staying at home due to the worldwide pandemic, go on a hike with me.

No fancy editing or cool music. Just everything I heard while out there.
Wear headphones or watch in a quiet place to avoid distracting sounds and take in the peacefulness of the area. Taking social distancing to the extreme.

I used the GoPro Hero 8 Black and my Panasonic GH5 with its long lenses.

The rest of my gear list is shown near the end of the video.
I'm not sponsored by anyone. These are just the items I use. All of the gear was purchased by me.

The nice thing about watching videos is you can skip ahead and watch at any pace you want.

The volcano stopped months ago and it could be years before it gets going again. I have tons of other videos I've been wanting to make so, now I can get busy on them.

Thanks for subscribing.

Yes, there is audio in this video. It's just a very quiet area other than the helicopter that seemingly follows me everywhere. The beehive itself was fairly quiet. Be careful if you turn your volume up high as other louder noises can be heard a few times. The bees seemed to be comfortable with my presence. On occasion one or two would buzz me. This was very early in the morning just after sunrise. I'm no expert on beehives so anyone that is feel free to offer up additional info you think is relevant.

Cool footage, Bees seem comfortable in that crater. Hope they can locate flowers in that area.

A truly amazing insight into nature. Good work man keep it up.
  • Looks like a healthy hive of bees. I can see some foragers doing wag tail dances on the surface of the combs. I myslef am a beekeeper and mine are very active

I love honey and I love bees but things with stingers don't like moi and being allergic to their venom makes me uber wary whenever they're nearby...
