LYRICS:

I believe my steps are growin' wearier each day
Still I've got another journey on my mind
Lures of this old world have ceased to make me wanna stay
And my one regret is leavin' you behind

But if it proves to be his will that I am first to go
And somehow I've a feelin' it will be
When it comes your time to travel likewise, don't feel lost
For I will be the first one that you'll see

And I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming, I will rise up with the shout
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand

Through this life we've labored hard to earn our meager fare
It's brought us trembling hands and failing eyes
So I'll just rest here on this shore and turn my eyes away
Until you come, then we'll see paradise

And I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming, I will rise up with the shout
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand

I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming, I will rise up with the shout
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand, hmm

Played this at my Dad's funeral. He loved this version. Brought a lot of tears and peace.
  • My Dad passed away in April of this year, and this was one of the songs we had played at at his funeral. My Mom chose this song. The other song we had played was "God Bless The USA" by Lee Greenwood. I chose that song, because my Dad was in the Navy during the Korean War. His funeral was a military funeral. He and My Mom celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last December. Everybody who knew my Dad and who loves him misses him so much! He was one of those people who never seemed to have any enemies - very few, if any at all. My Dad was a Christian, and I know he's in Heaven with Jesus. We all love you and miss you, Dad. We'll see you again when the Lord says it's time.

My mama passed away this week. We had a talented friend play his guitar and sing this as she had requested. I so love knowing she’ll be waiting on me. I’ll see you soon Mama. ❤️

This man is undoubtedly one of the finest singers of our lifetime. Country music , Christian music, songwriter, he does it all.

I just listened to this song for the first time....My husband passed 4 weeks ago today and it has been extremely difficult even though he had been sick for the past 2 years and I know he is no longer suffering. This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you.

I just lost my husband of 41 years New Years Eve. (41 years married, 43 years together) I can't think of anything that could be more shocking than to find a loved one on the bedroom floor......gone. I'm still in shock. It was just so unexpected. The coroner said it was a massive heart attack and at the age of only 63! That may sound old to some of you youngsters out there but believe me, it's not. My prayer is that you will come running through the shallow waters, reaching for my hand........ when my time comes! I love and miss you Jim! Until we meet again....keep drawing those pictures in the sand! Fly high angel!
  • My son died Feb 2020. I found this song shortly after. I listen to it often even though I cry each time. It gives me hope especially the chorus. He is so amazing.

My husband heard this song one night when Jimmy Fortune was on Larry's Country Diner. He wanted it played at his funeral when the time came. Well he passed back in January and I has it played at his funeral. We were married 56 years and he had been really sick the past 3 years, and I know he is in a better place but I sure do miss him. That is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard and it will always be special to me .

I'm in the process of planning my funeral, and this song gives me hope my late husband will be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan, and come running through the shallow waters reaching for my hand. It's such a welcome thought. I have faith it will be. ❤❤❤
  • the great Jimmy fortune with his heavenly voice,it really touches me

My husband had cancer and died a month ago. He has been playing this for me for 2 or 3 years. He said recently “ I will be waiting”.
  • As we elders get older, our steps become smaller and we weary. One thing that does not get smaller nor weary, is our crossing of the Jordan. "Come Lord Jesus, come." God bless
  • @Jahlive69
He has a wonderful voice, this is my favorite version of this song ❤
  • @divakarin1653
This song is every emotion at once. The beautiful things we will see, and the release of all sickness, pain, and sadness will be no more. Just an eternity of God's grace, and more love than we can imagine. Happiness abounding, and bountiful for us all...

A week ago my husband was called home. Most likely we listened to this song 100’s of time together. Now it’s my favorite memory with him . 61 years were very best possible. Now he is sitting on the “Far Side of Jordan “ with his hand stretched out saying come to me Rita. I’ve got my ticket that Jesus died for and ready to go . Be patient my love it could be anytime.
