I wanted to try and demonstrate the difference between a monotype and the usual monoprint that I have shown in many of my previous demo videos. For this, I use a slightly thicker type of plastic always trying to make use of recycled materials when possible.

The idea is to create a unique print by manipulating the paint (or ink) and then transferring this to the print surface.

The application of the black ivory oil paint (on the print plate) is art in itself.

Really love when you don't put a music track on! This is great
  • This is so interesting ! Another demonstration that I have to try. I love how much depth you create in the print.....I can see tree stumps and vegetation !!! I also appreciate the absence of talking and music because it is like sitting in a studio with someone.

Love this Dan almost looks like an etching print so much depth, you've really helped me get back into my stride with my work again I've nearly finished a painting and my mind is on my next load of monoprints or monotype type prints not sure going to prep a few sheets of plastic bags with different oil colours and do a portrait type piece and transfer it from sheet to sheet picking up the colours might turn out a mess or there again might not lol you really are a huge help!!

This is definitely a monotype, because a monoprint would have an image etched or scratched into a plate. One may get a ghost impression monotype from printing the original plate again or you can fiddle some more and get a different image. The monoprint will always have the original image, but can be painted, smeared in different ways to produce a new image again and again. In conclusion, every image begotten is called a print!

Always such a pleasure to watch you work. It's very relaxing. One day I might even feel brave enough to have a go at something like this.
