We've always know Disney had a dark side. But that's just movies - none of those scary things could happen in real life. Right? WRONG! Today we are looking at Pinocchio's Pleasure Island and the business model that would make it and it's child workers SUCCEED.

I love that MatPat makes a video about child slavery shortly after announcing he and Steph are having a child

Pinochio: "Why am I alive?" Fairy: "Jeppeto wanted you to be a real boy" Pinocchio: "Am I a real boy?" Fairy: "No" Pinoccchio:"_"
  • To make things worse, some of the kids like alexander, and lampwick were both calling out for their mother so basically not all of the children are even orphans😰
  • @abyssoozlum9027
To make things even worse: The bad guys getting away with it is actually the most realistic scenario.
  • @alnimri
First, is it possible to crush a child's skull and now this... oh MatPat... I am still confused how you are not on the FBI watch list..
  • @ntroscorpio2513
people: why does matpat only make kid friendly theories? matpat: lets talk about child slavery!
  • @bobbyhempel1513
And Pinocchio never tells a soul about the horrors he witnessed enabling it to continue for centuries to come.
  • Maybe the reason the fairy turned Pinocchio into a living puppet instead of a boy was because she KNEW he was gonna end up at the island and wanted to make sure he couldn’t turn into a donkey.... BUT THATS JUST A THEORY! A FILM THEORY

Pinocchio: "am I a real boy?" Blue fairy: well yes, but actually no

Here’s something interesting I noticed when rewatching the scene where the boys get to Pleasure Island: They aren’t the first to arrive. There are already a LOT of kids there. Meaning that the Coachman is probably making a lot more than theorized in this video.

In the book Pinocchio runs into his friend from pleasure Island who's a donkey and they basically been worked to death
  • @blindside75
There were so many child victims here that Scott Cawthon himself showed up and told them to chill out
  • Blue fairy: “He wished for a real boy!” Pinocchio: “Am I a real boy?” Blue Fairy: ”no❤️” Literally the ceo Of “no❤️”
  • @Mei-jr9xp
Pinocchio: “Am I a real boy??” The fairy: “no Pinocchio ❤️”
  • Whenever MatPat talks about Disney Classics I just think about how outdated the technology in my family was. I was born in 2005 and I watched all of the Disney Classics by using a VHS tape. By then DVD’s were a thing, and whenever my friends wanted to watch a Disney movie they would just stare at the VHS I would pull out. So many of my friends didn’t know what a VHS was. I now feel so much older than I probably should. 😂
  • the phrase "a boat load of young boys to PLEASURE ISLAND" does NOT sound good...... O_O

what if the park was built already and abandoned for some reason, so they just took advantage of it being there.

I don't know what happens in the original story, but I remember a version (probably an animated, non-Disney version) where the boys go under a waterfall to get transformed into donkeys. Eventually, the Coachman himself drinks from that water, and he is transformed into Monstro. I think this is a very clever thing to do. It gives the Coachman some comeuppance, it makes Montro more plot relevant for later down the line, and it even teaches a valuable lesson: what can happen if you're not careful with dangerous substances.
