Here's why I disagree about the 49ers wanting Aiyuk to play on his 5th year option: as you put it, Aiyuk has no leverage right now. The 49ers are better off negotiating with him when he has less leverage vs next offseason when he has more. Yes, the 49ers can franchise tag him next offseason, but that will be at a much higher cap number than his 5th year option. The sooner the 49ers sign him, the more leverage and cap flexibility that they will have.

Holdouts aren’t really an issue with the new rules. I don’t see any player wanting to lose that much money by sitting out now that teams can’t excuse the player from missing camp.

It’s just by paying them late we always overpay. Then you get into the situation we are in with Deebo. Where the contract looks terrible. We never not overpay.
  • Isn't June 1st when Armstead's salary cap hit lessens? I wouldn't expect anything to happen until after that.

27.5 * 4 , it's a deal, no more no less. But, if Aiuk rejects 27.5M, than good bye!

If the 49ers are unwilling to pay "Top of the Market Money" to Aiyuk this year, them waiting another year to sign him is only going to drive his cost to sign higher. From Aiyuk's perspective, he's watched other teammates get paid early and not necessarily forced to wait until their contract has expired before signing new highly paid contracts. Why should he be forced to wait when he has been proving himself with back-to-back 1000+ yard seasons and doing basically everything he has been told he needs to in order to help the team. At some point your perspective changes from (I'm doing my part to help the team) to (this team is taking advantage of me and hosing me out of what I deserve).

Keep chill. All this Aiyuk talk is empty and to a large extent, agent generated. BA will need to evaluate the offer and the QB. BA did not fare well catching for Garoppolo. He needs a QB who can hit a dot on an adjusted route. By the end of 2024, Purdy will be identified as the best in the league at accuracy and adjusted routes. He may already be on his best days
  • Keeping Deebo for 2024 AND 2025 doesn’t make sense to me. Why? The Niners just spent a first round pick on Ricky Pearsall. I get that they aren’t a team that drafts based on need, but taking a first round WR and actually plan to keep him as a backup for 2 years and have him start in year 3 is just asinine. That would be keeping him off the field for 2 years, and then if he’s any good in year 3, you’d have to immediately begin plans of how you’re going to pay Pearsall. True success in this league comes from hitting on draft picks and getting high level seasons out of guys that are making relative pennies. So I don’t agree that they want to keep Deebo for 2025, and my hope is that if they did want Deebo around they would have drafted a different position. It would be just like the Penix pick after they signed Cousins, but without the QB positional value that will possibly make that worth it. By the time you get a significant look at Pearsall, you would need to extend him or get rid of him. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

Well if pearsall ends up being any good (which he probably won’t because that was a reach of a pick) then aiyuk is gone
