Let’s briefly talk about One Hand runs in general, and then talk about my own personal experience. I decided to learn a speedrun that very quickly started to hurt my hands, or I guess really, only one of my hands.

Let me know what you thought of this different video approach and what you'd like to see going forward! Definitely been playing around a bit!!
  • @Myszkaedzio
The most painful speedruns are the ones where you have to do an 80 hour run without sleeping to get a chance at a world record.

This is super interesting, but the ergonomics of using one hand with a SNES controller seem like a nightmare, and that positioning of your hand is probably why your hand hurt so badly. If you actually still want to do this, I’d highly recommend figuring out how to hold your arm so the stress on your joints/fingers is lessened.

If an "accessible" category is changed to force using a controller in a way that destroys your hand, that doesn't seem very accessible. I have an ASCII Super L5 (the one-handed controller featured early in the video) and they were explicitly intended for JRPGs, so it's still pretty amazing to see a Super Mario World speedrun using one. It is not easy to use for action games.

Speedcubing (solving a rubik's cube as fast as possible, basically speedrunning a rubik's cube) has a one handed category. it seems like it'd be really difficult to turn fast but top solvers solve at over 7 turns per second, it's really cool if you haven't seen it before and a slight flex, I have two 9 second solves in competition B)

i think proper wrist support is the more important aspect here, laying the controller on a hard wooden desk probably didn't help with having to turn your hand in weird ways.
  • @barkbuck5521
My wrists hurt just thinking about doing this. I've tried playing a couple games with one hand before, Sonic Adventure 2 and Oblivion. It didn't go well in SA2 but it was easier than you'd think for Oblivion. Not necessarily easy, but it went better than expected.
  • Niftski has a great run in mario bros 1 handed, I don't know how Niftski is so good at seemingly everything.
  • I love that Shovda got a plug in this. One of my first thoughts when i clicked this vid was the special controller she was using to play through the injury on her other hand. Kaizo is cool, kaizo one handed is just beyond impressive

bro this looks more like a grind to see who can get carpal tunnel the fastest.
  • @ImmacHn
I believe that runs should be comparable in order to count. In this case, there should be a SNES controller 1 handed, and a Anything goes One-handed category separation.
  • @OmegaSaurus
I actually managed to finish Kung Fu Panda on the 360 one handed... It started as a joke but I actually got invested on it
  • @mcintoshpc
“May not be as easy as it seems” bro this already sounds hard as hell
  • As someone with cerebral palsy, I approve of this video even tho I have not watched the full video yet as of posting this!
  • @sfisher923
Waiting for "Feet Only" runs which is the next logical step
  • @grimstrr
I never realized this was a thing, but it’s incredibly interesting.
  • @TheThirdPrice
"why it may not be as easy as it seems" It doesn't seem easy so uh oh
  • @DannyPSE
3:45 this looked like playing Monster Hunter back in the day on the PSP :D it was called 'the claw'
