Becoming A Water Wizard In The High Desert - Reinforced Check Dams, More Sediment, and Green Plants

Published 2024-08-04
The rock check dams and hand dug swale are performing very well! I'm really pleased with how much I've been able to slow down the water rushing through my place. Thanks for tuning in! ~ Brian & Meadow

It's so cool to be able to watch your updates on the waterworks. Success is great, congrats on how well everything is working! Even better though - we've gotten to see the missteps on the way to success; learning happens there, and by sharing with us we can learn to avoid or fix our own, many thanks for that.
  • Hey Brian; Wow the progress is incredible from video to video your place is fascinating and your knowledge is inspiring

I'd suggest putting in more branches they help hold moisture for the grass once things start to get drier
  • Great job, using the land to its potential. In Portugal they all use Terraces to level off the land. Creative and functional. 🤙🤙. That was hilarious, that rabbit and Meadow buzzing by😂🤣😂Priceless moment. Shes the happiest. Be blessed Bro. 🙏🙏 Romans 10:9-10

Meadow looks like she is a great supervisor... LOL 🤣 😂 🤣
  • You should definitely dig more ponds! And if possible cut down all the invasive trees and plant more native trees!

In the last 6 months, MIT researchers have discovered that light alone (without heat) is very effective at making water evaporate. While gardeners and farmers have known for centuries that ground cover is important, this research has shown why stripped land is so vulnerable to desertification. It also adds to our understanding of why Iceland that has lots of water suffered from desertification. This research underlines the importance of getting your land covered with any form of ground cover as soon as possible (mulch, wood chips, rough grass, anything that will help prevent the evaporation from light and the erosion from water run off and wind.
  • I envy you, having that gratifying labor. I miss that"free therapy" that working with land gives you. Can't wait to get my land! Meadow is hilarious chasing that rabbit!
