I thought I'd start an occasional series about my favourite roads & routes for a ride or a drive.

In this one I take you from Settle, through the Yorkshire Dales along the B6479, to Hawes, via the Ribblehead Viaduct & the B6255.

  • greetings from fellow Bostonian, happily now live on the road not far from Seaside so this is my daily commute , the first "more paint more danger" you mentioned a father with son pillion crashed at that tight corner and sadly died a few years back its bad one for sure
  • Cracking route, one of my favourite places to take the bike plus fantastic scenery πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Great video. If all goes well with me, I'll be riding that route in reverse in a couple of weeks on a K75. Weather permitting of course. If the weather is awful, I'll just be wet and miserable on the A1M back to Kent.
  • I bought a used BM triple black a few weeks ago. R1200 GS ADV model. In middle of tweeking it. Your route is exactly the one I'm going on. Love it. Cut my teeth in the military on SAS Reserve selection all around the Yorkshire Dales. In the late 80s. Great roads. I hired a car years ago on leave from Baghdad. Took it back and asked for a smaller car. I was going round the Dales. The sales girl was amazed. I told her it's a wee bit narrow round there and I don't want a claim. She was amazed. Driving a truck round the Dales is very enlightening. Tippers are a nightmare. Tractors and cyclists next. Other than that. Brilliant roads and views.
  • just an add on to riding style, i always stuck to my side of the road which makes bends more interesting,

One of my favourite routes especially when you add the Buttertubs with a spot of lunch at Tan Hill. How long before the whole stretch becomes a 50 limit like most of the country. Might collect one of those national signs soon for posterity 😒
  • great vid, this was part of my loop from shipley then over tops to settle,on to hawes then on to aysgarth and turn right to west burton and down to kettlewell. thent back to shipley via skipton, took about 3 hours with stops at butty van at ribblehead and pee stop at kettlewell. bike was honda cbr600; keep them coming, david ratcliffe

Agree with many of the comments. A really superb road. Best enjoyed during the week when it is quieter. If you are lucky (as you clearly were on the day you videoed this) you can have a great, smooth ride (without going mad) and really enjoy the flow of the curves. When I first did it, I simply turned around and went straight back the other way, testing myself to be as smooth as possible - and I am by no means a highly-skilled rider. One way, just enjoying the views, back the other pushing on a bit, but concentrating on the best lines and pace through corners by taking good observations ahead and making the most of the open views.

  • Hi Reg, just wanted to let you know that after watching this video earlier in the week we decided to get up early this morning and drive this route from Leeds, really enjoyed it! Plus a good recommendation for a coffee stop in Hawes, hope you share more of your favourite routes soon.
  • Fantastic video. That is one route i want to do. The turning for the pass was a great help.
