  • I have some details to add from my own investigation. I have a hypothesis that the crucible - before it became the Erdtree - was literally the Sun in the sky. My first clue is the description for the Sun Realm Shield, which states: "Shield of honor depicting a city crowned by the sun. It has seen better days. Much like the wear upon the shield, the Seat of the Sun is long faded away." There are a lot of key phrases in that description to digest. I believe that Leyndel Capital is the same city as the one on the shield, and that the Seat of the Sun is the same thing as the Elden Throne. Another clue in the game is the Golden Sunflowers which grow near minor erdtrees. They always face towards the original Erdtree. In real life, sunflowers tend to face towards the sun. My last clue is the Omen Armor description, which states: "Worn by the Dung Eater. The heavy, sun-shaped medallion represents both the guidance he once saw, and the ring to which it will one day lead." The key word in this being "guidance", as if to suggest that the Sun was once related to the guidance of grace, but that this is no longer the case. From a scientific perspective, it does make sense to embody the source of all life as a sun in cosmology, because that is what the physical source of things is. On the spiritual side of things, too, the Sun is possibly the oldest object of worship in human history.
