Nathan, the beauty of the song is the juxtaposition. During the middle part, we imagine the preacher placing the Bible in the hands of the dying prostitute. In reality, the dying preacher gave the prostitute his Bible as his final act. She turns her life around and rears a son who ends up being a preacher himself. The message is that there is forgiveness and redemption for all who earnestly ask for it.

Wow, never heard it before, amazing... God Bless you all brothers and sisters 🙏🙏🙏

One of my favorite 90's/2000's country songs!❤

Grew up on this song. Such a good message. Give "Calm the Fire" by Alter Bridge a try. It also has a great message. Just subbed. Keep up the great work!

The twist is harder to get for recent reactions, because we are less judgemental of "the hooker" than the original audiences. You're supposed to infer that nobody cared about her and she didnt get a cross because she didnt leave anything good behind in her life, then be awed that she survived and not only did she turn her life around, her son became a preacher. I've seen quite a few reactions to this song, but they never immediately get the twist, and honestly thats the most beautiful thing about people. It's not a big deal because we dont automatically assume that nobody can love a sex worker today.

@NathanBrownMusic the prostitute is the 1 who survived. The preacher gave it to her as he was dying. She read it to her son & he is the preacher holding it up. Listen again & I think you’ll realize that! Thanks
