Lyrics;

It's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late
Hits you when you're down
It's a fool's game
Nothing but a fool's game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown
It's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Love him 'til your arms break
Then he let's you down
It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you
It ain't wise to need someone
As much as I depended on you
Oh, it's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late
Hits you when you're down
It's a fool's game
Nothing but a fool's game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown
It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you
It ain't wise to need someone
As much as I depended on you
Oh, it's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
You love him 'til your arms break
Then he let's you down
It's a fool's game
Standing in the cold rain
Feelin' like a clown
It's a heartache
Love him 'til your arms break
Then he let's you down
It's a fool's game

  • One night, many moons ago on a balmy July night (being the music loving teenager that I was) sitting in the family station wagon listening to music and this song came on, one of my favorites at the time. Then out comes my dad from the house. I just knew he was gonna tell me to turn off the music and for me to get my butt in the house. To my surprise, he sat in the passenger seat and said "Turn it up!" I was kinda shocked because he hated my music lol. That was over 40 years ago and he is no longer here but I will never forget sharing that special moment in time with my dad.
  • Why can't they make music like this anymore? Who's listening in 2024
  • who hurt her, to make such beautiful and touching words and then to give such a vocal performance. I cried so much during each listen and will continue to do so. 70-80s music will always be my heart.

It was one of my grandmother's favorite songs! She had a long fight with cancer, and one day in the hospital before going to sleep, she wanted to hear this song but didn’t remember the name, and we just remembered the melody! Since we don't speak English, I looked for this song putting all kinds of words that we could remember of it, and searched on 70s/80s music playlists on YouTube, until I finally found it! Everybody was so proud and happy lol! She was very happy, and started listening to it again! I miss her so much, and every time we listen this song, we remember of her!

Not only her voice is very good, but the gestures she makes when singing the song, are very appropriate really. Bonnie Tyler is a great performer.

Insane perfromance. She sounds like she just cried 5 hours straight before the recording, tears not even dried yet.

Many thanks to the one who wrote this song. It tells how hurt he/she had been. And Bonnie is the best one to spread it out.

Always GREAT!!! even after 45 years - at that time I was 23, now I'm 68 - it remains a great, beautiful song and her voice is really unique!!! GREAT SONG!!! GREAT BONNIE!!! GREAT!!! 👏♥👏
  • I was in the Navy living in Scotland when I first heard this song in a scottish pub. It made me realize how so many people get their hearts broken during the course of a lifetime, yet we all can get through it by understanding it's a part of life. Great music like this helps you understand that.

Great song, by a great musical artist, with a great voice. Amazing "sound" that reverberates throughout your soul. The sound of her voice gives me shivers.

This song will forever remind me of Tom, my first crush in high school. Don't know what happened to him but I was a gawky, chubby 15-year-old and I never went out with him. Bonnie Tyler was the BEST and the music of the Seventies was awesome and then some!
  • I'm 58. Lost for words for how fast my youth came and went. Looking for some answers and respite in the music from way back when. Lorenzo from Italia

I was 14 years old when this song came out. It was constantly passing on the jukebox. 46 years later, Bonnie Tyler's voice still gives me chills.
