►Lyrics:
Written by Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff

I have this thing where I get older but just never wiser
Midnights become my afternoons
When my depression works the graveyard shift
All of the people I’ve ghosted stand there in the room
I should not be left to my own devices, they come with prices and vices, I end up in crisis
Tale as old as time
I wake up screaming from dreaming one day I’ll watch as you’re leaving ‘cause you got tired of my scheming - for the last time

It’s me
Hi
I’m the problem, it’s me
At teatime
Everybody agrees
I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero

Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby
And I’m a monster on the hill
Too big to hang out
Slowly lurching toward your favorite city
Pierced through the heart but never killed
Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism like some kind of congressman
Tale as old as time
I wake up screaming from dreaming
one day I’ll watch as you’re leaving and life will lose all its meaning - for the last time

It’s me
Hi
I’m the problem, it’s me
At teatime
Everybody agrees
I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero

I have this dream my daughter-in-law kills me for the money
She thinks I left them in the will
The family gathers ‘round and reads it
And then someone screams out
“She’s laughing up at us from hell!”

It’s me
Hi
I’m the problem, it’s me

It’s me
Hi
I’m the problem, it’s me

It’s me
Hi

Everybody agrees
Everybody agrees

It’s me
Hi
I’m the problem, it’s me
At teatime
Everybody agrees
I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero

It's so crystal clear how this song's so personal and heartfelt that it could resonate with anyone who's struggling with occasional or frequent moments of self-loathe
  • The hypocrisy of the media is astounding. I thought the scale scene was really vulnerable and I'm really upset that part of it was taken out. We love you Taylor and we appreciate you being open with us about your insecurities
  • @IndyRica
She feels awkwardly “LARGER THAN LIFE” and internally deals with the pressure of fame and money - and contemplates what will even happen to all of her accomplishments after she’s gone. I love Taylor for being so transparent and humble. A great Artist. ❤

The Midnights era is never ending for me. I know this is not my only obsession every time I hear ''It's me, Hi, I'm the problem, It's me''🥺.
  • @CopyKatVlog
I love the message in the end - how you can “befriend” and eventually accept even your darkest sides, allow yourself to be that imperfect anti-hero or at least learn how to live with it. Love how it’s about mental health. Thanks Taylor 🎉

Please don’t change this video just because some people do not understand. Some people never will. That scene resonates with me

I’m not a Swifty, I’m a grown man in my 40s, and yet even I can resonate with this song.
  • It's the way she took her darkest thoughts and experiences and created something so beautiful. Her imagination and creativity have always been so inspiring. It takes a lot of courage to share your heart with others and to do on that on such a massive scale! I believe people can say whatever they want to, but to us fans she'll always be fascinating, inspiring and absolutely adorable.

This song has so many layers, like how it's your flaws that hurt you but they're all you have when others leave you. The depth and even the fears of having children, because of her afluence is just wow....I love this song so much 😭

    Goodbye Midnights Era 💙🕛🌃🌌
  • This song and mv hurt me in ways i couldn't imagine. Knowing that this unveiled taylor's deepest fears, struggles, and insecurities just makes me so sad. She deserves the world and deserves to know she is forever loved & is worth more than her doubts & fears. I wish she could see herself the way we see her. She’s just the absolute best person, role model & hero. We love you sm, mom. ❤
  • @berenike7980
I think this the most personal song of her yet. The way she puts her feelings into words is just so admirable. I love her so much, she’s truly a mastermind🤍
  • @ShaneSmith898
I really don't think she's capable of writing a bad song!!! Everything she writes is freaking awesome!
  • @adroharv5140
wow it's like the pinnacle of music. Taylor Swift is impossibly talented and she is essentially like Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart combined and has precisely the most talent of any musician to have ever lived. No wonder she's so rich and adored. Her words are like poems from angels and her musical understanding for structure and melody is better than any person in history

“I have this thing where I get older but just never wiser” dude the first line hits HARD gives me goosebumps
  • "People haven't always been there for me but music always has"- Taylor Swift.
  • @JeffMoore1984
As a indie singer-songwriter this is my favorite Taylor Swift song
