Was there ever a worry Jamie Hyneman would leave MythBusters? Is the fused bullet myth still considered plausible? Is it possible to have a restful break in the middle of a noisy workshop? Adam Savage answers these questions from Tested members Dan (@--Dan-), Remy M (@remym1362-) and Lee Bruner, whom we thank for their support! Truth be told, I feel this show wouldn’t have worked without JAMIE. You two were total opposite, yet worked so well together. Glad he stuck to the very end.

Not only does jaime come across as a introvert, people need to remember M5 was HIS workshop. No matter who you are, how extroverted or introverted you are....constantly having your space invaded like that with camera crews, production teams, must really take its toll on you mentally.

When he questioned whether or not he comes back for more seasons it must have always come with the overwhelming desire to get his workshop back for himself and his team..

I like that you and Jamie have been honest that you aren't friends but also have never said a bad word about each other. There's lots of examples of bad blood after long running TV shows. I'm really glad Jamie didn't leave.

Not everyone has their heart on their sleeve. I remember a scene from Mythbusters when Adam asked Jamie to show some emotion and Jamie responded that he was showing excitement (still had the same deadpan look on his face). As said here in the comments, the diverse personalities are one reason why the show excelled. If Jamie had been as animated as Adam, the show would've been exhausting. Thanks, Adam, for being willing to give insights to the show. It's so appreciated.

I always appreciate the professional respect that Adam shows Jamie. They may not be best friends but the professional admiration that Adam has for Jamie and their working relationship always shows through when Adam talks about his time on Mythbusters. You don't have to be friends with someone to admire them and their work.
  • That throwaway line from Jamie once "Adam needs a cookie" now makes sense 😂

Jaimie is now a mythical creature, he's off doing whatever the Hyneman does and living life but i wish we still had him on video

I met Adam and Jamie when I was a kid. My dad won tickets to fly out and visit their studio, and Adam took us out to Lunch. Absolutely fantastic people, Adam signed my wallet which I still have today.

Jamie seems like an introvert - what he projects might not be how he feels. He could be feeling happy inside but look totally meh or even uncomfortable. Regardless, Myth Busters could never have been a joy to watch and learn from without the whole team. The diverse personalities is what made it so good

It doesn't take much observation to see that Jamie is a very introverted engineer, and so many of us will misunderstand his deadpan face expressions as lack of enjoyment. The fact that he was even paying close attention to the event means he was enjoying it.

I remember seeing some kind of behind the scenes episode or special shortly after i started watching the show (this was a long time ago so I can't quite remember all the details). There was a part where Jamie refused to play into the manufactured drama that a lot of shows were pushing & still push today. I remember having so much respect for him saying that. It was one of the things that made me like the show even more & it went from a show I would watch if it was on to a show I actively watched every week until it ended.
  • What I noticed from some of the earlier seasons was actually Jamie seemed more comfortable talking/expressing himself on camera (he even dressed up in costume like Adam, did a silly accent and all too, for a skit to set up a myth) compared to how reserved he seemed to get a year or so later. It's like he either got self conscious or was just further annoyed at the "entertainment" parts of the job that Adam gravitated to better

It worked because of you and Jamies dynamic. It was a working relationship with a mutual respect. Finding out you two were not friends as a kid was like finding out santa wasnt real, but was also a example of people putting aside differences to make something amazing. Plus Kari Grant and Troy brought the vibe of a group that would go get drinks after shooting a episode so you had both dynamics you would see in a workplace
  • @evildude109
Smarter Every Day recently did the bullet myth for real, it took ridiculous precision. And sure enough one of his trials did have a fused bullet dropping straight down, fused, all momentum cancelled out.

I think we can all say that MythBusters was something very special.
  • @ProfSir1
Jamie is a legend for doing the show at all. I’m glad he’s now doing what he loves.

It's interesting how the dynamic of Adam and Jamie was so good in Mythbusters, because they complimented each other's energy so well. And yet there are so many channels these days that just try to have everyone be as exhaustively excited about everything all the time as they possibly can. I don't think many of those content creators understand the benefit of just taking a breath.

I miss Jamie. Every now and then he pops up somewhere on the internet but would be nice to see him answer some question on tested.

I want you to know how influential your professional relationship with Jamie was for me. One of my early jobs I worked with a person of a similar temperment, the man eventually became my work partner working at a hospital, and having Mythbusters in my head gave me room to appreciate the special dynamic he brought to the table. I was more similar to Adam, but despite the difference in enthusiasm he was a great influence on the man I would become, and indirectly so was Jamie. It's always been my defence mechanism with new people to think of a performer they are similar to, and in this guy's case, well thank goodness I had seen Mythbusters, because I've never come across anything else as similar.
