This game was played on 4 July 1964. It was a deferred clash from Round 9. The crowd was 6 630, and as the legendary Rex Mossop says in closing commentary, Souths won 31-6.

Imagine being the very first blokes to crack a tin n tell the Mrs, "sorry love the footy is on, ill do it after"
-
Game was played on July 4, 1964. Agree Rex Mossop is 100% commentator.

Great clip, but actually the first live telecast was by ABN2 in 1961. Balmain Vs North Sydney. Only the second half was shown in those days.
-
Great to see- thanks for sharing. Does anyone know if games from 1961 to 1963 are available to download anywhere? I have been trying to find some footage of my dad for years.

This is not the first game of Rugby League televised in Sydney. The first tv game was in 1961 when they only televised the second half of the game !!!
-
I was just talking to Arthur Branighan just the other day, a real gentleman
-
I don't know if this is the first televised match or not. However it is Round 9 1964.

Go you mighty Berries
-
I remember when they kicked up half the field to get dirt to kick a goal !
-
Great upload. Red and green aren’t the best colours for black and white - I thought it was Newtown at first 😊
-
Bob McCarthy was the bane of our existence at Belmore !
-
I think first televised in Aussie, I think in England they used to televised rugby league way before 60s I guess
-
Was this match at Belmore before or after the reconfiguration from east-west to north-south?
-
Belmore when it was an actual oval. Anyone know what year it was reconfigured to rectangular?
-
Checkout the age difference between the players back then compared to today's playing ages

I think it's 1964. John Sattler didn't join Souths until 1963. Ron Coote didn't play first grade until 1964 and Fred Anderson's first season with Souths was also 1964. It certainly wasn't the first televised game as others have indicated.

Supposed to be 1962 but Rex mentions 15 pounds or 30 dollars. Dollars not currency until 1966
