________________________________________________________________________

To all my fellow artists that receive requests to do their job for free and feel bad saying no.

Respect yourself, your craft and passion, time and effort you’ve put into this, and make a very clear distinction between those who offer you an unpaid performance that will indeed help you out in the long run VS cheap, inconsiderate, and greedy people who just want to take advantage of you.

Let's share and put an end to this.

If you liked it, please give it a 👍🏻 & follow - I appreciate it

Cheers!

I had a restaurant ask me to design their menu and entire company branding...for free. They gave me the same shit; that they couldn't pay me, but that it would be good for my 'portfolio'. I responded telling them that I would do it, but that I would expect free meals every day, since this would be good for their chef's 'portfolio'. The fuckers never messaged me back.

Even as a hitman, I can still relate to this.
  • @demarcdegasol
“You might get exposure” Yes as in exposed to the elements because I won’t be able to afford a roof over my head.
  • @matthiasbraul
The dislikes are probably from those people who don't want to pay.
  • @onee
The worst part is, when something is free, people tend to not see the value in it. And end up complaining about the smallest things.
  • @Panadanaut
Like the saying goes "If you are good at something, don't do it for free"
  • @qarlsson1
Anyone heard of: "We have a logo design competition!" ... It's a competition so we don't have to pay for anything! The winner gets payed in winning! Yay!
  • @Ry-ss5dz
The worst is when you are undervalued by your own family or friends.
  • @junialter
That counts for everybody who's good at something, not only artists.
  • Honestly, you stated this so politely. More politely than I'm sure any artist wants to 😅
  • as an artist that was told many times over the years , "with everything you can do, why aren't you a millionaire?" I usually responded "because people like you think I should work for nothing."
  • @Poop-nu1so
"Will I get paid for this?" "no, but you'll get exposure" "for what?" "maybe some rich person will notice you and hire you" "for money?" "no, for more exposure" "why?" "maybe some even richer person will notice you and hire you" "for money this time?" "no, but you'll get even more exposure" repeat until artist has starved to death Rich People: "Hey want to sell this dead artist's work for royalities?" "Sure, but don't overplay it, don't want it getting too much exposure"

"Can you teach my kids for free?" is my absolute favorite.
  • @OlivierGomis
I get emails every day from companies managing Facebook pages wanting to repost my videos. Everytime they say this “We can’t pay you but you’ll get exposure”. And the worst thing is they make money of of this.
  • @JoseCarvajal.
As a professional photographer I constantly get the same comments and it is a mixture between feeling depressed and disrespected. I hope this video reaches all those people who is directly attacking years of study and hard work. Thanks a lot Anastasiia!

After 18 years of hard work and dedication i won't even listen to anyone after they say "But we can't pay you". Neither should you.
  • @argophontes
"You'll get exposure." "Yes, I'll be exposed to being broke."
  • @brainiac31K
To bank loan officer: I can’t pay you back, but you’ll get wonderful exposure.
  • @SilverDog237
As a starting producer, I have one important rule: I never record a musician in my studio without paying them.
