What will the netminding situation look like with Darcy Kuemper going to the Kings?

Published 2024-06-21
"The recent trade between the Washington Capitals and the Los Angeles Kings has significantly impacted the goaltending departments of both teams. The Capitals acquired center Pierre-Luc Dubois in exchange for goalie Darcy Kuemper. Dubois, 25, brings a wealth of potential and skills to the Capitals and is set to become the team's third highest-paid player. On the other hand, the Kings' acquisition of Kuemper from the Capitals is expected to result in substantial salary cap savings for the Kings in the short term. These savings will provide the Kings with increased flexibility to address their roster needs through additional trades, free agent signings, and internal promotions.

General Manager Rob Blake of the LA Kings has expressed his confidence in the character, fit within the organization, and playing style of Darcy Kuemper. The Kings' staff's familiarity with Kuemper is seen as an advantage that will expedite his integration and development within the team. Additionally, the trade allows the Kings to avoid buying out a contract, as previously indicated by GM Rob Blake. The Kings are hopeful that Kuemper's experience and track record will have a positive impact on their goaltending prospects for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Lindgren and Hunter Shepard have both showcased strong performances in the goaltending position. With Shepard finishing the season with remarkable statistics and achievements, it's clear that the goaltending situation in Washington is promising. The Capitals' depth chart in goal is further bolstered by Clay Stevenson, and the team is considering exploring the free agent market for an inexpensive NHL veteran to complement Lindgren.

In summary, the recent trade and the performances of goalies such as Shepard and Lindgren have set the stage for an exciting season for both the Washington Capitals and the Los Angeles Kings."

Pierre Luke dubois reminds me of Ben Simmons of the New Jersey nets
  • At the end of the day, PLD is only one player. Let’s not get into the habit of thinking that he is going to make a break us.
  • Great point mentioning that we were able to get Dubois because of Lindgren!
  • @CapsCoverage
I can't say that I'm not a little bit nervous about fully handing off the reigns to Lindgren. Despite his great year last season, it was clear in the playoffs that the starting goalie workload had taken a toll on him and he was out of gas at year's end. I think him and Shepard, (then eventually Clay Stevenson), could be a solid tandem, but I'm shaky about whether or not Lindgren is ready for the starter's workload again.
  • So basically both teams got rid of players they wanted to dump, for player no team was interested in. Also kinda funny how you are like Dubois won’t return to his former glory, but then being like if we gave Kuemper another chance he would have returned to his former glory.
  • High risk, could be huge reward only time will tell. Could you give us an episode about how much cap space we have left and what are your thoughts about the way we should go about it? Thanks
  • Nichushkin would do all the dirty work for 8 & 80 on L1. If WSH wants any chance at a miracle Cup run with Ovie, adding Nuke is the gamble they need to take (as long as they're taking on risky players).
  • Cap space wise LA Kings won big time. Reducing 3.25 million and if they have to payout DK, it would be much lower. Now the Caps are stuck with a No movement clause. His attitude is a huge issue which affects his performance and now could affect the team. He's a very high risk which in the long run The Caps can get stuck with. I'm not crazy about the contract situation as it went from bad to much worse.
  • I have a feeling this would set us back a long time, and I know people say carbs helps fix’s players but I not sure Even Carbs can help fix his game
  • At first i was kind of meh on the trade since we do in fact have good depth in the goal department, and we had the cap space to accomodate so i was hoping for the best until i saw the term left on PLDs contract...He's still pretty young so there is a chance (and what I'm praying for 😭) that he matures and lives up to whats expected... but holy moly I do NOT like the term of his deal haha guess we will just have to wait and see
  • @kristinH82
Can’t look past that when it’s basically KUZY! … who I’d rather have back! #FireMacLellen I hope we’re wrong to, but I’m not feeling it. I can’t think of ONE factual GOOD reason this decision was made.
  • Bring in Cam Talbot to back up Lindgren. Hunter Shepherd is ready to be the 3rd goaltender. Good luck, Caps Utah needs defense. Would Carlsson take the trade? The 6th overall pick looks pretty strong right now. Groom PLD to be a letter wearing Capital. 🧩
